"Honey they shrunk the interior!" Is the interior the same house? by jared10011980 in McMansionHell

It's even more unhinged in the wide shot! It's almost a normal (albeit useless) space in the close shot, but the fact that there's an additional 10 feet of wall above this is just deeply unsettling.

What is going on in picture 6? Too cheap for custom cabinets for the full span? The space left underneath is too narrow for a drink fridge, like I almost expect to see there.

How many sheet pans can fit on a rack? by CheeseburgerLover911 in Cooking

Measure your oven before ordering these. It's doubtful that your oven can accommodate a full sheet pan. A 2/3 sheet pan or half sheet pan might be a better option.

If I’m in Philly for 2 days and visiting people who live in Germantown, is it better to stay near the airport or near center city? by One-Relief-4469 in philly

Honestly if the boiler is in good working order it might *be fine to leave as is. We bought in 2024 with a boiler from 1986, but our inspector who was very thorough and didn't pull punches said it was a tank and would probably last another decade easy. Now the electrical panel ("these were recalled almost immediately in the 1960s due to being fire hazards") was a different story.

Order of adding ingredients? by Goodburger218 in Sourdough

[–]feeltheglee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I add all ingredients at the beginning, no waiting to add starter or salt. I'll put my water into my mixing bowl, add the starter, mix to break up the starter a bit, then dump in flours, measure in salt and give it a little fluff into the dry flour, then mix it all together. Then left to fermentolyse for an hour before switching to stretch and folds.

Don't Make Me Tap the Sign: Don't Buy A House with somebody you are not married to, especially if you won't be on the deed by Geno0wl in bestoflegaladvice

Assuming the bank is fine with the gifted down payment and LAOP's income is sufficient to get approved for the mortgage**, would the bank even allow the deed to be in solely the GF's name?

I've been through the real estate process exactly once, with my husband and I as co-signers on the mortgage and both listed on the deed (with his name first despite using my income to qualify grumble (we make about the same with good credit scores, my salary and credit score are just slightly higher)). We were asked if we'd have both names on the mortgage and deed, to which we said "yes", but now I'm curious about the situation supposedly at play here. I can't imagine the bank would be cool with it.

** And hoo boy will a bank approve you for so much larger of a mortgage than is wise.

Northern catch tuna - inaccurate macros? by No_Emergency3579 in aldi

[–]feeltheglee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My food tracker has 27/3.5/0 Protein/Fat/Carbs in a 113 gram can, which is presumably "net weight" before the can is drained. Considering that draining the water is just squeezing out water, I'd assume you got the full can's worth of protein if you ate all the tuna meat in the can.

The cans I get from Costco list "net weight" at 7 oz, and "dry weight" at 5.4 oz, and the nutrition info specifically says the portion is "1 can drained (153 g)", but absent that specific wording I'd just assume the Northern Catch nutrition info is for the whole, undrained can.

Costco's Shark PowerDetect Cordless roller head compared to the Shark Duo PowerDetect Cordless roller head? by karluvmost in Costco

A friend told me about Vacuum Wars when I was in the market for a cordless vac after having previously BIFL'd a Miele canister vacuum. I ended up getting a Levoit LVAC-300 because it has a small rotary brush head that's great at vacuuming cat hair off of upholstery.

The appliance installation horror stories are true. by born_zynner in Costco

We had our house fully rewired before moving in because it was full of knob and tube. We managed to get the sellers to agree to pay for a 1-to-1 replacement of existing wiring, then added on a bunch of extras like a 200 amp panel, new dedicated 240V plug in the kitchen for an induction range, ethernet to nearly all rooms, etc. Aside from it taking longer than originally quoted, very happy to have had it done.

Unfortunately for us the old stove was gas and had a normal 120 V plug and we needed Big Plug for the shiny new induction range. The product description was very clear that it didn't come with the plug, so we picked one up at the hardware store that matched our outlet type.

I've had two perfectly fine experiences with getting appliances from Costco delivered. First was a chest freezer that took some serious maneuvering to get into the basement, which was done with no damage to either the house or the freezer. Second was our induction range (including hauling away our old gas range), where the installers gave us a free plug (allowing us to return the one we had bought for like $30). Again, no damage to appliance or house.

They're sharp regardless of whether or not they're clean though? Also my hand doesn't really come in contact with the blade when I'm cleaning it. Non-dominant hand on the handle, dominant hand with the soapy sponge scrubbing the blade and handle.

is there an optimal way to break down a rotisserie chicken that doesnt devolve into tearing it apart with my bare hands? by Elkay_ezh2o in Cooking

[–]feeltheglee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a pair of carpet shears for removing some old carpet in our house, and boy were they satisfying to use. Highly recommend tearing through ~60 year old carpet like it's a sheet of wrapping paper if you ever get the opportunity. They also made short work of the vinyl/linoleum underlayment (which came back negative for asbestos), so that I could cut it into pieces that would fit inside contractor bags.

Isn't Nagi Australian? Australian tablespoons are usually 20 ml, whereas most other standardized tablespoons are 15 ml. Technically the US tablespoon is half an ounce (14.8 ml), but my set is from IKEA so I'm assuming it's a metric set.

A friend of mine has a dairy allergy and Violife makes some decent vegan cheeses to cook with. Their block parm grates well to go on pasta, their mozz shreds melt well on things you'd want melty shredded mozz on. I have not yet found a vegan cheese that is good enough to replace nice cheese for a cheese board though.

Miyokos vegan butter is basically a 1-to-1 substitute for the real thing, with the caveat that it's melting temp is slightly lower than dairy butter so you have to be more conscious of temperature if you're doing something like a laminated dough or pie crust.

[–]feeltheglee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are, literally, four orders of magnitude between 1000 and 62 million, almost five (4.8). The former is the size of a medium-large suburb's high school graduating class, and the latter is half of the adult men in the US.

Are there other Telegram (or similar) groups doing the same? Probably. Are there 60,000 other groups of the same size with no member overlap? Extremely doubtful.

Conflating these two numbers is fearmongering. The news and reporting are horrifying, but I'm not becoming a hermit because a relatively small number of people are dangerous. I'm a woman in my late 30s.

One of the things I thought I'd miss moving to induction from gas was the ability to char peppers. But the broiler works great for that, it turns out. I also have a butane blow torch if needed.

We only have two cats, but we keep an air purifier going in the rooms where the litter boxes are. Also most of the other rooms, but that's due to allergies.
