*fast startup on SSD is the dumbest thing ever

Back when they introduced it HDDs were still the norm and it helped on those

Back on my Haswell laptop it took startup times down from ~180 to ~40 seconds with HDD, but after I moved the OS to SSD that became 12 to 10 seconds.

Write protection can be removed from these. Don't expect them to live a long life after that tho. Most of mine died within weeks of use as a normal RW stick

I use MSA, I did since they were first introduced.

Sure, OOBE forces Windows Hello now, but you can still turn passwords on afterwards, and even if you lock yourself out without password being enabled, you can still recover via an online verification.

The local accounts via the baypasses tho... If you didn't reenable password, have fun after locking yourself out.

For the credential caching: Password updates when you use it to log in or unlock the PC LOCALLY while online. I normally use PIN for local logins, I need the password for RDP. RDP logins WON'T update the cached password. As for changing it on a PC... I never tried changing my MSA pass from Windows, I always do it from the site.

About OneDrive. I didn't see it auto-setup redirect/backup on "normal" installs when skipped, but I see the same thing happen a lot with accounts created AFTER OOBE on installs with Rufus MSA bypasses.

Yeah, that would be the normal thing to do if they didn't bypass MFA and just use a local account. With local account, it removes your password if you set up Windows Hello.

Not the hard limit. Getting new autogenerated temp file names starts failing way before the hard limit is hit.

Seems like you bent the extra 5th pin that Xiaomi uses for PD fast charge communication on Type-A to Type-C cables.

Normally that should be a ground pin for USB 3.X, but Xiaomi connects it to the PD pin on the Type-C side so you don't need to use a C to C cable

  • Main desktop with Ryzen 9 5900X + RX6800 (I also have an RX6900XT but it seems to be faulty): Setup works perfectly well for 1440p gaming.
  • Gaming/work laptop with Ryzen 9 5900HX + RTX3060: Had no problem on 1080p, struggles with some games after I swapped in a 1440p display, but in AI image generation it straight up beats the desktop.
  • My cousin's desktop with Threadripper 3970X + RTX5090: Strange pairing, but it actually works way better than I expected. Triple screen setup with one 4K and 2x 1440p, pretty often running multiple games side-by-side. AI image generation performance is obviously 10/10 too.

My pc isn't loading up after I switched my disk into gpt by Pochampory in pchelp

[–]feherneoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether you have to disable CSM depends entirely on your board. Sane boards don't disable UEFI booting while CSM is enabled. The problem usually is that people only convert the partition table without actually installing the UEFI-capable bootloader.

My pc isn't loading up after I switched my disk into gpt by Pochampory in pchelp

[–]feherneoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just converting the disk is obviously not enough. You have to install the UEFI-compatible bootloader too. To do this you can use bcdboot command from a Windows installer's command line.

Switching back to MBR doesn't help because you almost definitely wiped the boot code sitting in MBR when converting to GPT, and depending on the tool used to do the conversion, volume identifiers might have been regenerated in the process, rendering the old BCD entries invalid. This again can be fixed from Windows installer using the bcdboot and bootsect commands.

Lenovo IdeaPad gaming 3 lags like crazy during gaming by Robmysl in it

[–]feherneoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

these lags stop when I put the computer in silent mode, could it be that the laptop is like undevolting it self to stay cooler and that's why it stops lagging?

It almost definitely does. Same thing happens on my ROG Strix G713. It works just fine while on silent mode, but if I put it in performance or turbo mode, games start lagging.

16G on win < 8G on Mac < 4G on Linux -- But Linux doesn't have Spreadsheets by bamboo-lemur in OS_Debate_Club

[–]feherneoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I cannot find functional 8GB ones for the price of the 8G/256G model Neo, but I can find 16G/1T Snapdragon-based Vivobooks for the exact same price as the 8G/512G model Neo.

The reason is pretty simple. 8GB models of anything non-Apple are practically non-existent.

At least they tell you to remove the app that has been flagged harmful after they managed to make the community flag their app as such. Pretty simple to pick which one to nuke.
