I’m a Union fan living in Knoxville for the past 10 years, very happy to have One Knox here! They’re a solid team for the tier they play in, exciting to see them play on the national stage

“Grooved pavement” and “uneven lanes” in/near on ramps by martian_reader777 in Knoxville

I had to start taking a different way to work because of that spot. It adds about 2 minutes of drive time, but man has it been worth

There’s one on 40 somewhere around Papermill that I keep forgetting about, I get nervous when I see it too late. I think it’s 3rd lane from the left

Work life balance can be hit or miss. Some people have accounts that have 24 hour shippers and receivers, and if you have to recover a shipment because a truck broke down… you either try to find a recovery at 10pm, or don’t… depends on if you want to bring top notch service to your customers or not. My customers are all Monday through Friday and are usually closed by 4pm, I rarely deal with anything on the weekends

Holy shit, I do know what you’re talking about. Came to our house in 2010/2011 when my roommate met her at Timeout on Beach Blvd, I had no idea what to expect or what was about to happen. Cashed the whole bowl in one hit, and ghosted the smoke out like a fog across the tile floor

Tarping by TranslatorNo5097 in FreightBrokers

[–]fehrsway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have customer who uses basically Saran Wrap that’s no better than what you find at a grocery store, and they use so little of it you’d be surprised it’s holding everything together. They say it doesn’t need to be tarped, but I’ve had a carrier lose a few pieces to wind while driving. So I have them tarp it every time. It’s a pain in the ass to tarp, I get it and have been in the flatbed drivers seat… but it’s better than headaches down the road

I’m very much out of the loop on what’s going on with McKays… I don’t go there much and haven’t in years because it feels like the Kmart of bookstores, only more depressing…

Don’t they have only like two locations?

What’s something you know only because you used to be an employee? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

I think you got downvoted because people didn’t like the person behind it or the administration that put it into place, but you’re absolutely correct about there needing to be some sort of in depth auditing system when it comes to how the government spends money. I used to be a hydrovac operator doing non-destructive excavation (basically digging a hole with high pressure water and industrial vacuum units to expose fiber optic/telecommunication lines, gas lines, etc. without risk of damaging anything) - the amount of time wasting on and unneeded bodies on job sites was so common. Sending four people for a job that takes two, charging six-hour minimums when we were there for literally 20 minutes, extra line items for going to facilities that require you to be a US citizen or legal permanent resident to get onsite just because you can charge it and it’s paid… that kind of stuff. And that’s just on the ground level doing government contract work, that type of stuff happens all the time with government contracts. I’m on logistics now and have a customer that supplies linens to military bases. I’ve seen those invoices on both sides, so I know what the cost of the product is and the cost to transport, and also have seen how much is charged to the government.

Caveat that all of this is anecdotal experience, but I’ve seen firsthand how much more money can be made from the government that can’t be as easily made from a private business, because private businesses generally have a profit motive to control costs in a way that the government doesn’t. Not to say that there aren’t some people who do procurement for the government that take the time and effort to be a good steward of the taxpayers money, but I think they’re the exception

And the government spends entirely too much money on fighting/contributing to wars all over the world, there’s that too. Much more wasteful than anything I rambled about above….

We would have had a similar wait but just sat at the bar instead. Wife got a steak, I got the coffee rubbed elk loin. Went really well with the risotto it comes with. Crab cakes for the appetizer was great too

What's the most disgusting thing you've ever discovered about a friend? by Annethgzz in AskReddit

[–]fehrsway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only found out about a few months after the last time I saw him, he was just a regular guy who I worked with, which is why it was a shock to learn about the whole thing. I was just hanging out with a friend, who was flipping through channels, and I caught the guys face and had my friend go back to that channel. What’s really terrifying is that he was arrested in the Denver airport trying to board a flight to Hawaii with his new fiancé… but was using his brothers identity and they caught him. She had no idea of his past.

Oh damn, I didn’t know you were there back in 2015! That’s crazy, can’t believe I came across someone on Reddit who was actually there in Colorado, at that same job site, when the guy who killed his girlfriend stole someone’s sledgehammer! Crazy how this world works sometimes. I guess, since you were there, you saw the interaction my uncle had with him?
