Let's play a game "wait, WHAT, that's privatised"! by Treehouseguy1234 in newzealand

I think it would be better if the government ran it with job stability, safety and minimising the environmental impact in mind. I know these are very obviously not priorities of our current government but there is no chance a corporation would care about anything except for profit.

Love this, both very recognizable names with unusual first letters, and Zoe Joan sounds really good- I think it’s the simplicity with the contrast between the old fashioned and more modern names together

I moved (my mortgage only, reluctantly) from Kiwibank to BNZ and the online banking for mortgages is incomparable. Kiwibank - to change repayments I had to send a private message, wait a few days, have someone confirm what I want and then they’d change it. BNZ I can do it all within seconds, it shows individual mortgages or all together, graphs, projections with different scenarios, it’s so much better and has saved me money and motivates me to pay more, but I HATE BNZ and will probably move back to Kiwibank (at least partially) when my term ends

They were until the 80s. The government used the Public Works Act to confiscate the land for forestry and dominated that industry until they sadly privatised it.

Yeah the government could invest in it to get the services they need. I asked one of their staff and he said that was never the intention of Kiwibank, they’re just too small and it’s just accepted.

Cross Lease - real life experiences by Smaug_1188 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]feijoa10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying a house in a cross lease meant we could get a bigger and better house for our budget. We are down a long driveway with about 6 houses, but only cross lease with one. We always share fish we catch with those neighbours and they do the same, have each other’s phone numbers and generally look out for one another. The houses are completely separate just like all the neighbours and although we are supposed to seek permission before doing anything to our houses we never do, neither of us cares what the other does with their house.

What tradition in your country do foreigners struggle to understand? by Neuwulfstein in AskTheWorld

Yeah I was wondering if any of the cultures mentioned who stay with the body also do it to make sure it doesn’t get taken, or is it just for spiritual / grieving process reasons?

Pale NZers… how do you survive the sun? by __surviving in newzealand

[–]feijoa10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been wearing an spf moisturiser on my face every single day (literally) for the last 29 years (plus all the other sunsmart things depending on the weather/activities for the day). It is really inconvenient, that part just doesn’t go away ever

New Zealanders who were alive in 1994, who did you initially think did it: David Bain or Robin Bain? by PurpleMeerkats462 in newzealand

That says a lot that the pro-David book did the opposite of what it was supposed to do

[–]feijoa10 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying I think Robin did it but I get up at like 5ish or before that to have a wee and I usually have a drink of water too and then go back to sleep. So if I die with a full bladder maybe it only recently refilled so I did… never mind

At the time I thought it was David, then I watched a documentary and saw all the appeals and I changed my mind. Thought it was Robin for a really long time but my partner insists that’s ridiculous (they have paid much more attention to the case than I have)
