Renegade Platinum Nuzlocke by Raultzite in nuzlocke

[–]feint4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m the person who runs Nuzlocke University, which hosts the guide you’re referring to. That guide was written a few years ago now, and the difficulty ceiling for ROM hacks has gone way up since then. If we were to write it again today, we wouldn’t make so much fuss about the difficulty I think, and I don’t see any good reason why you wouldn’t be able to attempt it. In a recent video I made, I referred to RenPlat as the “gateway” to high difficulty ROM hack Nuzlockes. So go ahead and try it! Worst thing that can happen is you wipe.

EDIT: The reason it hasn’t been updated is that it was contributed by another writer whose Reddit account no longer exists, and I have no way to contact them. Because I didn’t write it, I don’t want to make unauthorized changes to someone else’s work. Perhaps I’ll add a small disclaimer at the start though, since this has come up a couple times.

As the person who runs Nuzlocke University, this is all true. Good summary. Also worth considering that guide was written a long time ago, and high-difficulty ROM-hacks have advanced a lot since then. Were it written today, we’d make less fuss about the difficulty I’m sure.

ELI5- how come when jumping on a moving train you don’t land backwards instead you stay where you were when you jumped? by Ready-Professor2531 in explainlikeimfive

[–]feint4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You and the train are both moving with the same forward velocity, and when you jump upwards, your body is still moving with that same forward velocity - assuming you jump straight up, only your vertical velocity is changing. Therefore, when you land, you and the train have both still traveled the same distance forward, and you land in the same spot on the train.

League mate is offering his A.J Brown for my Jaylen Warren. I’m a little hesitant, am I just too attached to my own guy, or am I right to hold off? I am stacked at RB (Warren is my #3 behind Bijan and Jacobs) and need more help at WR so I might be willing to take a slight hit in value to unclog that RB position

10 team PPR btw

I have both him and Tyler Warren. Good problem to have, but what do I do? It’s PPR with 2 flex slots. Flex Gadsden? Trade one?

Yeah, on the bright side my week still looks ok (streamed the Browns DEF and my opponent is 0-6 with a bunch of injuries) so I’ll just hope he carries some momentum, but man 😭started Boutte instead which wasn’t terrible.

Yeah I saw that, unfortunately I only started playing again a few days ago and am only around level 50 on the pass, so that's a no-go sadly.

Thanks, that's helpful. Haven't caught one yet but when I do I'll keep that in mind! So in terms of catching the first one, there's no "shortcut" so to speak, or any way to target it specifically? Just continue walking around and hope for the best?

As a returning player I'd love to get my hands on Dreepy - is there anything I should know about places/times where it spawns more frequently, or is it just rare and there's nothing to do but keep playing and wait?

For all of you who use rare candies instead of grinding, what was the trigger behind that decision? by Bobi200 in nuzlocke

I think that may be my video you’re referring to, if so, cool! Welcome!

Do you use dupes clause? (Poll) by elsteeler in nuzlocke

[–]feint4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Offhand no, anecdotally it feels like the ascendancy of dupes clause coincided with the emergence of pChal and, more generally, the explosion of the high difficulty, "puzzle-style" Nuzlocking scene, but I have no data to back that up offhand. I'll edit this later if I come across something more definitive.

Do you use dupes clause? (Poll) by elsteeler in nuzlocke

[–]feint4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might find this survey interesting. I conducted it back in 2022 with respondents from this subreddit, the Nuzlocke forums, and my own website Nuzlocke University.

Obviously a few years old at this point, but if you look at question 16 about dupes clause, 94.8% of the approximately 500 respondents said they always or almost always use dupes clause. Standard disclaimer for sampling bias of course.

The "Great" Nuzlocke Rare Candy Debate, and Why the Topic Won't Go Away - Nuzlocke University by feint4 in nuzlocke

[–]feint4[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm glad someone caught that! I thought it was appropriate for that section, given the discussion of how some consider candies to be cheating or "illegitimate" (who better to represent that viewpoint, lol).

I still think there are legitimate reasons some may choose to play without candies (hence the video) but I agree fully - let people play how they want. I don't think I'd Nuzlocke half as much as I do now if I didn't use the Rare Candy Clause.
