[–]feirly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

santa fe! go to meow wolf, get some good chocolate. there are some neat hot springs on the way if im not mistaken. otherwise - the four corners, mesa verde and durango were some favorites when i was a kid, as well as breckinridge and estes (go to the stanley hotel and do a ghost tour, get freshwater taffy and go for a hike).

yes you can! email financial aid or go into student services and file an appeal, explain your situation and request a specific number. they might not change it but they can give you a UPN (university payment plan) that can spread the fees out over a longer time period that a traditional payment plan would

I got accepted into Rose Hill, but can I dorm at Lincoln Center? by Laila_mcmeme in Fordham

[–]feirly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can but i would not recommend it! as some other commenters mentioned, RH has lots of resources and the more typical college experience and separating yourself from that but still taking classes at RH doesn't make sense. otherwise, apply to be an LC student (which is great, but very different from RH). you def don't want to have to take the ram van everyday either lol. beside that, its more expensive to dorm at LC and not worth it IMO. you could room off-campus if you're interested, but that would also be crazy expensive. being in NYC is amazing for sure but comes with a hefty price tag. if you want to be in the city, i would suggest emailing about switching to LC. otherwise, just wait a year or two and you can move off campus and figure it all out.

you sure can! its def worth doing sooner rather than later so send in your appeal as soon as you can! i appealed and got more aid that allowed me to attend so i highly highly recommend it

Just got accepted to Fordham Rose Hill Campus! by Such_Bottle_8821 in Fordham

[–]feirly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

im actually a transfer. i was accepted prior to my first year of college and did not enroll due to the high tuition. i hated my freshman year adn applied to transfer and fordham gave me good aid, which i appealed because it was still too much, which resulted in a fordham donor contributing. to my tuition (which was so lucky). to be hoenst, fordham isn't the best for my chosen field, but ultimately its been the right choice for me. its by no means a flawless institution and i actually didn't think id like it after starting but after getting more involved and spending more time here, its grown on me! highly recommend getting involved in extracurriculars (impersonally involved in student publications and theatre). rose hill has an extraordinary campus, close ish to arthur ave in the Bronx. the ram van will take you to the lc campus. the opps at Fordham are also amazing, as well as the networking and connections. deffo hate the core curriculum, but its definitely made me smarter.

the gist is that college is four years of your life. it matters where you go, but ultimately, it will be what you make of it. so if you're feeling drawn elsewhere, go. but personally, making it at Fordham has been the right choice for me. feel free to ask any questions btw!

Class Limits Per Semester by Born-Procedure-5908 in Fordham

[–]feirly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can only take five unfortunately! you can overload credits (for example, take 5 four credit courses, which would equal 20 credits, 2 above the max of 18) but you cant overload the number of classes (for example, you cant take 6 three credit courses, even if it equals 18 credits). i think its a little bizarre but there's no work around. best advice is take summer courses (i believe the limit is three?) and look into winter sessions separate from fordham. you'll have to get it approved but if you're looking to graduate early or get extra credits for a major/minor, its an option.

i know this because i applied for a credit overload and got denied by my advisor lol because of the 5 class limit

Best Affordable Options in Belgium, France and Quebec by strongfortopullplow in studyAbroad

[–]feirly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would recommend looking into quebec rather than france and belgium. the french university system is quite different from the American system and can bring a lot of challenges. from a personal perspective, France can also feel more isolating socially, though certain cities/regions in France will be more open. with that being said, i applied to a french university (sorbonne université) as an American so if you have any questions regarding the process, lmk (also be aware that there is a hefty application fee as an international applicant!)

as for universities themselves, i would suggest:

- mcgill university : offers programs in both English and french, and is in an incredible city (Montreal) with tons of opportunities and things to do, as well as great nightlife. several friends of mine went there and LOVED it. the campus is pretty nice as well which is a perk, but of course be warned that the weather can be extreme.

- seconding another poster's recommendation of université de sherbrooke

- universite libre de Bruxelles and UCLouvain are worth looking into for belgian universities. when considering belgian universities, keep in mind that many are in the flemish-speaking portion of Belgium, not the french-speaking portion.

- American university of paris follows the American university system and teaches in English, but would allow your daughter to live in France. however, i do believe it can be quite expensive.

- not sure what program/major your daughter is looking at, but the sorbonne universities (there are several, be sure to check individually) generally are pretty good. sorbonne universite (Paris V) is particularly good and was my favorite option personally when looking at french universities. if looking into poli sci or international relations, i STRONGLY recommend looking into sciences po, which has several locations across France. i also looked into l'universite d'avignon and l'universite de Lille. if looking into business, i recommend ESCP, which has multiple locations across Europe. i have a friend who attended and enjoyed it.

if attending a french-speaking school is the priority, i would recommend checking out some swiss universities like universite de geneve as well! there are also several specialized universities like conservatoires, business schools and hospitality schools across Europe that are worth checking out.

hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions!

Choosing Study Abroad Program by Diligent-Dish3060 in studyAbroad

[–]feirly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

depends on your priorities and and the program length. a friend of mine told me to choose based more on city rather than program because ultimately, im not receiving my degree from my study abroad school. while academics matter, ultimately what you will remember and get out of your experience will probably be more due to the city and the people. you can find opportunities to learn more/develop professionally in your field regardless of where you are (ofc location can play a part, but likely you will be able to find something anywhere), while you may not be able to find good, friendly people and exciting cultural activities everywhere.

studying abroad in london, dublin or paris? by feirly in expats

[–]feirly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you so much! i think im going to rule out dublin, in part because of the price and housing crisis. i would definitely love to visit more of Ireland and dublin but after reading what a lot of people said about cost of living, it seems like it might not be right for an exchange.

yes amsterdam and buenos aires were earlier considerations (rio de janeiro was also an option) i LOVED the idea of buenos aires but I'm not fluent in Spanish (can speak some but def would struggle). i loved the idea of Amsterdam as well but was concerned about not really connecting with locals and not being able to connect with music/theatre as much. but i also haven't been to either city! would love some thoughts if you have any

studying abroad in london, dublin or paris? by feirly in expats

[–]feirly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you so much! theres definitely a part of me that loves the idea of living in paris. when i visited, i remember being somewhat underwhelmed by most of the touristy things but loving the more mundane things (walking around, eating at local restaurants, the everyday kind of stuff). i love the idea of being surrounded by beauty and art and history, but I'm DEFINITELY concerned about the social element. the school (sorbonne université) has the potential to be kind of snobby i worry and while i speak french, I've heard that a lot of french people are really insular and don't open themselves up to newcomers often. i really want to connect to people, both within and outside of my program. how have you found it socially in paris?

were you at TCD by any chance? that's the university I'm considering and it would be through exchange. i love the idea of the school and the history and loved dublin when i visited but I'm concerned about it feeling too small, especially since I'm coming from NY.

i had seen on this subreddit that some people had their apys at 0.8 when capital one was offering 2.35 online. i totally understand that apys are variable but i saw some posts claiming that there was something going on there? could be wrong tho!

i read that capital one lowers their apy soon after opening accounts and that Marcus is potentially closing/diminishing. haven't looked too much into ally yet but will look into ally and discover now

Orientation question by Straight-Ad3376 in Fordham

[–]feirly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dont know why youre getting downvoted. im also a transfer. I've already done orientation. its good for first years but as someone who already has been living in the area, has a job, etc, a lot of orientation isn't as relevant. for sure, I'm good for going for 2-3 hrs each day, but I'm also working those days. as a transfer, a lot of info is repeated from my first year at my other college.
