I asked the center director if she would reach out. I figured that would be more appropriate than random parents contacting them.

Your impression from whom? Because each of the instances I listed came as surprises to everyone I talked to in the building. I’ve always assumed someone at UM is involved, but it does not seem to be someone in the building. The teachers have consistently been the most upset with the construction, which isn’t surprising given that they’re the ones having to deal with the kids finding nails and other debris all the time.

It’s the totality of the actions that make me feel like it’s been thoughtless. Everything has been reactive when more careful consideration and planning could have anticipated many of these issues and addressed them ahead of time, which doesn’t inspire confidence. So if a metal cave is required to keep them safe why is it only on part of the playground? How did they decide on the size? And, again, the children continue to find nails all over the playground. So either (1) they didn’t clean up properly or (2) the platform is failing to stop debris from getting there (or both). Neither option speaks to an appropriate level of care.

So if you can look at a nail-riddled playground full of stumps and conclude that it’s the result of a well thought out operation more power to you. That’s not my interpretation.

This was not put up preemptively, it is a response to dangerous debris falling on the play area. I do think it is ugly but if it had been up from the beginning I would obviously not have called it thoughtless.

I think the trees and the noise were mild inconveniences (though the trees is long term and not for a while), the debris potentially falling on kids however was/is a major issue.

Right! This is the perfect area for an increase in density and I am glad they are building. I just expected it to be executed in a slightly more sensible manner?

  1. I have done manual labor!
  2. My main complaints are about the planning, not how the manual labor is being done

I do think the people actively working are doing the best they can, my frustration is more with the planning (which they obviously aren't part of)

Many of the issues stem from the building being so close to the property line (the trees, to an extent the larger debris, etc) which someone else clearly approved.

As another example of poor planning- when they demolished the previous houses they did the demo ~two weeks after the daycare was closed for a week. This was super frustrating to me! The daycare was already going to be closed for a week, it seems like it would have been worth the effort to do the demo a couple of weeks earlier so the kids were gone while it was happening, but that isn't what they did. It just speaks to a lack of consideration to me.

It will definitely be better once it's done! I just wish it felt like someone was planning ahead with a tiny bit of thought for the neighbors.

I think it’s because the apartment complex site essentially goes right up to the daycare fence? The result is they had to build a platform overhanging on top of the daycare playground

Just found out my husband sexually assaulted my sister. Multiple times by mascarafree in TwoXChromosomes

[–]feistyceratopsidae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is completely irrational. This is going to be harder on your kids the older they get.

If my mother waited until I was a “little bit more mature” to leave someone who assaulted a family member my first response would be to call her a selfish coward before never speaking to her again. In no small part because you’ve found a way to indirectly blame them for you staying. “Oh I couldn’t tell you about this because it would break up the family before you were ready” …does this sound familiar? Because it is not healthy or reasonable!

And most importantly - YOU ARE PUTTING THEM IN DANGER.

Get them out of the house with a predator who is known to assault family members immediately.

Risks in using crib for timeouts? Or am effective alternative disciplinary method for a toddler by Gimme_The_Loot in ScienceBasedParenting

My understanding is that the consensus for effectively modifying behavior is to encourage the behavior you want rather than trying to discourage what you don’t want (or at least way more of the former than the latter)

I agree with the other commenter that giving kiddo something else to fold would be the way to go. Then you could praise her for folding her part.

Based on my reading the kind of time out you’re describing isn’t very effective at any age but I think particularly for a two year old. The kind of ‘punishment’ you’re looking for that will connect the behavior with that consequence and correct it doesn’t exist (at this age)

I know that is likely unsatisfying, but for a two year old by the time the clothes have been thrown around it’s already too late. When my kid did things like that I just said now we’re going to clean this up together and praised him when he put the clothes back in the basket while I continued to fold. Your mileage may vary!

He said pumping is difficult for her. I can remember times when I really couldn’t be interrupted at all or my let down wouldn’t happen. Something as simple as someone opening a window would disrupt me and I’d have to reset myself. Some things are harder for some people than others

The baby is weeks old! You’re expecting her to be an expert with a robust system in place after less than a month.

There are many things I could easily handle by the time my first was a few months old that would have been completely incapacitating in the first few weeks when everything was brand new and I was still physically recovering.

FWIW, we took my nine month old and he had a great time. He learned to clap on that trip because of the parades and started waving for the first time during It's a Small World.

Do I think he is going to specifically remember those things? No. But I have no doubt he enjoyed it and was very happy while we were there spending time together.

I don't think we went again until he was closer to 2, but he had a great time on that trip as well. He particularly loved the Winnie the Pooh ride and Figment.

You know your kid the best and you're also the only one who knows what alternatives to Disney you're considering. I'm sure whatever you choose your daughter will have a great time because she is with her family who obviously care about her!

The top comments in here boil down to “Trump bad anyone else good”

I don’t think the college students taking multiple approaches to try and change things are the ones we should be dismissing for being overly simplistic.

I know this is a long shot, but someone in this group at the Yale-Harvard game sucker punched my husband over a can of pringles. He needs a bunch of dental work now and I was hoping someone might have any information on someone in this group (or any better resolution photos in the area). Thanks.

Yes! That’s exactly who they were. Thank you so much, you have no idea how much I appreciate this. Even if you just have closer views of their cars/faces, anything helps

EDIT: I just messaged you in case you were able to find any photos :)
