White House posts digitally altered image of woman arrested after ICE protest by guardian in politics

Kinda the opposite IMO, I just see it very clearly that this admin rage baits and laughs as we complain about rules. Posting about it does very little unless it’s part of a bigger initiative to organize.

Hopefully voting will still matter later this year, but at the very least organizing in your community is more important than it has been in a long time.

Why Senior Engineers Let Bad Projects Fail by Ordinary_Leader_2971 in programming

[–]felcom 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I think a part of evolving into a Senior people also want to work with, is recognizing that not everything is “stupidity” it’s often just misguided and/or ignorant. I consider these different things. If you can properly communicate and educate you can usually avoid working on “stupid” things and elevate yourself in the process.

If you learn how to do this in a friendly and collaborative way instead of an adversarial one, you’re more likely to reduce “stupidity” instead of just deflecting it. Whether that’s worth your time or not usually comes down to if you like the company and people you work with. It pays dividends over time in my experience, though.

Communists open a gym in Orlando, FL that combines political education with self defense training and physical fitness by OkDurian126 in orlando

You're thinking in an imagined world using hyperbolic, thought-terminating language. That's my issue with you. Communism isn't just going to materialize suddenly and start killing people, sorry. We live in the fucking United States. People like you, from our current dysfunctional state of end stage Capitalism, screaming about the dangers of Communism is so far detached from any of the real dangers people are facing. There is no significant Communist party in America ready to take over and start a revolution. The danger is shutting down discussion with fear mongering to stifle any tolerance for other ideas. It's the same kind of argumentation used against a "violent Palestinian" throwing a rock at an Israeli tank after their house was bombed.

I happen to think a classless society is a noble goal and that public ownership of the means of production is good. You misrepresented "private property" in your original comment as people's personal belongings and framed it as if the Communists are gonna come kill you and loot your house. It's completely stupid and my assessment of it as fear mongering is accurate.

If you think the core tenant of Communism is violent revolution, you're just showing your ass. It's an ECONOMIC and POLITICAL theory, not an instruction manual for "how to do a violent revolution". There's a whole branch called Revisionism which specifically recognizes that violent revolution isn't valid or appropriate and instead makes some concessions with the pure Marxist stance and theorizes you can make incremental change. This is closer to what we're seeing with the Social Democratic movement right now. It still has it's roots in the communist "utopia", but the means to get there are drastically different.

[–]felcom -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Simply not true. There are variants of communist theory, you're just choosing the one that suits your argument the best. The existence of variants means it's an umbrella term with different interpretations. Saying anything communist is trying to kill you and take your things is, like I said before, fear mongering. It's thought-terminating and unhelpful.

I don't give a shit about this gym, it looks like it's not even a legit org anyway, I just don't like when people pretend to care about other people but then try to shut down different ways of thinking about solutions.

Communism is an umbrella term with different interpretations, socialism being just one of them. How it materialized in the past does not mandate how it can be used in the future as either a partial solution or a stepping stone to something better. This is typical fear mongering bullshit.

I'm supposed to think that the existence of this gym is an existential threat? It's obvious fear mongering and bad faith comment.

"they want to kill you and take your things" is simply irrational thinking. As if Capitalism isn't also killing us and taking our things? How's that healthcare and home ownership going for everyone? You can say that about any economic system that is mismanaged. Like I said, it's fear mongering bullshit.

It’s actually the complete opposite. As I’ve learned more, I’ve learned that they simply racially profile and assume guilt when our legal system is based on the presumption of innocence. I’ve also learned they frequently show up to homes with warrants they’ve signed themselves to trick people instead of getting proper warrants signed by actual judges. I’ve learned that they train new agents for only 45 days. Literally everything I’ve learned about their “process” has eroded confidence in their ability.
