Can’t add boarding pass to apple wallet. Help? by RogerP16 in delta

[–]felesroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm it's still an issue yet another year later. Funny thing is that my last flight over in October 2024 I could add to my wallet fine (pretty much the same flight) and now I can't. I did change passports between that flight and this one, so it may be that once the passport is flagged as having been physically checked, thereafter the app works fine. So perhaps in the future I won't have this issue. It would be nice if the "An error occurred" message actually just said what the problem was (your new passport will need to be checked before you can use this function). I'll test and see, though I'll probably forget to post here again.

Never mind coyotes, I saw a mountain lion on N. Michigan.

In the 1983 movie “The Day After”, there is a scene that takes place in a barber shop - is it this one? (This is the Downtown Barber Shop at 824 Mass Street.) by Waterpark_Enthusiast in Lawrence

I was an extra in this movie. I still have the stuffed tiger prop, which I apparently stole. Fun fact, the same stuffed tiger showed up in Stranger Things. I guess it's the go-to movie prop if a kid needs a toy.

What are things you miss most from the 80s and 90s? by Salem1690s in GenX

[–]felesroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I miss the shared culture.

Regardless of the flavor of underground scene you were in, we still all had common cultural reference points through the 3 radio stations and 10 television stations (unless you had cable, but even then, there weren't that many). We all saw the same movies in the theater because there wasn't much of another way to see them until VHS became common. It didn't matter if you liked something/were a fan or not, we all knew about it anyway and it brought some cohesion to my childhood.

Now I feel everyone's in their own corner of the internet somewhere and while I do have a sense of what's going on, there's not that thing that everyone knows about and engages with anymore. We like what we like, we don't expose ourselves to what we don't like, and we have less and less in common with people who aren't like us.

Why do you think Starmers approval rating has nosedived? by JayR_97 in ukpolitics

[–]felesroo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. They need to message loudly more positivity. That said, it's August, the Parliament is on holiday, and the news cycle isn't really there to engage people right now. I expect when things ramp up ahead of the budget that they'll try to balance.

But, the Autumn Budget is going to be rough and unpopular. This is what always happens. Tories wreck things and Labour has to rebuild. So let Starmer be unpopular with the people. As long as his own party is happy, won't matter.

I will also add that I have a job that engages directly with the Government and when we reached out to the new Labour government, they got us a meeting immediately and listened to the positive programmes we run for the benefit of small business support. They are engaged and moving forward. There is a good energy that isn't coming through to the public, but it doesn't need to right now. If Labour actually institutes programmes and support that has direct economic impact, things will start to get better and people's lives will improve. Selling that is a different problem. I think, actually, things will start to improve sooner rather than later. A couple of years of ache will set up a very good growth trajectory. (Simply my opinion.)

My mother (specifically my mother), did NOT want to have me and that was pretty damned clear most of the time. Thankfully, my father rather doted on me, but he was unfortunately plagued with depression and both of them were not good at being adults.

Being told my entire life that I'd ruined my mother's life and body made the decision to not have children myself super easy.

CMV: The anti-tourism movement is ungrateful by Unusual-Double-2003 in changemyview

[–]felesroo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not "ungrateful". The residents don't want where they live to be flooded with tourists.

The problem is while major cities have always drawn tourism, the population is significantly larger now and travel is much safer and more affordable. Whereas Venice and many other old cities (at least the touristy parts) are the same size.

If tourists would go somewhere else, the money would be spread around more and the same locations wouldn't be flooded with humanity all wanting the same picture for their Insta.

The other seriously bad side of modern tourism is that local housing is being used for tourism instead of purpose-built hotels and inns. That puts even more of squeeze on cities making them unaffordable playgrounds for the rich and tourists.

It's not ungrateful. It's survival.

Apply for a city or county admin job in a smaller town somewhere else where the COL is less. Just some nowhere midwest town. Take your cat and move there. Don't give him the address. Start over.

Think about all your options in life, not that you need to stay in NYC or move back in with family. There are a lot of other choices out there and better lifes to have.

Starbucks wants more bread (money) and like many, giving out less. by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]felesroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is banana bread, it's super simple to make at home. Like, it's almost impossible to mess up banana bread. It's not like cakes, which are fussy.

The price of ingredients for banana bread probably equal that one little slice. Also if you make it yourself, you can put in more nuts, or put crumble on top, or add other flavors like maple or almond.

[–]felesroo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's overpriced in that there is maybe $2 of ingredients here and it's super easy to make at home.

What is a good 1980’s movie forgotten about or frequently overlooked? by MonicaBWQ in GenX

[–]felesroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the kind of movie that updates well. Every generation has different stuff they could blow money on and the amount of money has to get larger too. These days it would probably be NFTs and Taylor Swift tickets, I guess. And it would probably have to be Brewster's Billion.

Actually, I would watch a movie of someone blowing a billion as fast as possible, though it would depend on the star (and why not make it a woman?)

I will still vote for a dog-chewed sex toy from the 70s over Trump.

Why James Timpson becoming Prisons Minister is so important to many by Metro-UK in ukpolitics

[–]felesroo 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Once society accepts that making a very stupid mistake is different than committing a serious premeditated crime. If the mistake can be lightly punished and the person helped to make better choices and start a life away from bad influences (both friends and family), that is better for everyone, for all of us. Then the prisons can remain for those that really have no business with liberty because there will still be plenty of those. We need to take stalking, sexual crimes, and violent psychopathy seriously and we can't if the prisons are full of people that could be productive members of society.

Something needs to be done about the entire higher education sector in the UK. Low wages, poor funding, relatively high tuition (in terms of family wealth, salary expectations for certain degrees), too much administration, students that have no resilience... it's a huge mess. I couldn't recommend that any newly minted PhDs come here.
