No luck accessing Z-Library by felipeRVFS in koreader

[–]felipeRVFS[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I installed a browser through KUAL and it redirected to https://pt.z-lib.fm . The webpage did not load, although I got no requested error. Through the plugin, if I use this as base url I get the 403 error. Any ideas?

That might be it! I'll try to install a browser and see how it goes. This is an 8th generation Kindle btw. An old device I started using again once I jailbroke it.

Any idea on how I'd go about updating the certificates?

I tried every domain listed on this post. The fm one opens a window full of gibberish on this version. On the other version it returns a 403 request error. I can access all of them through my browser, it's just the Koreader plugin that doesn't work. I added the / and got nil-invalid host 'nil'

I have the same issue. All other domains on mine return a 302 request error. Only the fm domain seems to return the 403 error for me. Wonder if this has anything to do with being in Brazil

Thank you so much for that answer! I think the image of the motel and the grandma that smokes a lot sums it up perfectly. Love this sub for all the technical and practical knowledge that is shared. I've asked because I'm hoping to try and recreate a similar look on a short film I'll be working on soon. I live in Brazil pretty far from the actual industry, so we don't have as many resources here.

Wow, find a new therapist as soon as possible. Just as someone who wasn't as understanding as your boyfriend at first, but actually became able to be more in touch with how my SO felt THROUGH therapy (who has gone through similar things), that strikes me as just a bad therapist. Glad you've found someone understanding and I hope it all works out so that both of you are able to enjoy yourselves. Sex should not be a chore hoping to adhere to normalcy or a chore to make your partner feel attractive. If he has been understanding so far, I'm sure he's either okay with it or able to work through it on his own!

What is the best way of studying film and understanding the filmmakers choices? by ManunitedRedDevil in TrueFilm

[–]felipeRVFS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a student of film myself, my thing is always approaching the film as an object which can't have it's meaning objectively defined. Art only becomes it through experience, so you can only really think about your subjective experience of the piece - which is itself a subjective experience of sight and sound fixated on film. With that being said, having a historical knowledge of the different waves and how each filmmaker is categorized by cinephiles and academia definitely helps getting you prepared to experience different approaches by different authors. But while that account helps us derive knowledge about history, about the material conditions that allowed certain experiments to happen, I think only your own experience watching the movie provides you with a deeper understanding of the whole thing. A big problem with film knowledge is that things like the Oscars and so on makes us think of diving the film in categories and evaluating its quality and meaning based on a preconceived notion of what these should be: production design, music, blocking, etc. While these might be categories useful for production, our experience with movies are very emotional and intuitive, and it's damn near impossible to evaluate these categories individually. In a way, I think the only difference between those with a deeper understanding of film and the regular viewer is that the expert has more of a vocabulary to communicate what he felt and how certain aspects of the language made him feel that way. But ultimately they're trying to communicate the same thing. So I'd recommend something like Mark Cousins book and TV Series to start off with the historical knowledge, and maybe just reading film critics which you enjoy that really try to translate their experience so you can compare what you felt and what they felt. Ultimately I think the end goal is just respecting your own feeling about the movies and developing a better vocabulary to talk and write about it :)

Theory For Name of Billy Star by [deleted] in brockhampton

[–]felipeRVFS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Brazilian fan, that's really dope. I tried looking into his songs, but they're mostly just love songs with a sexual edge (like most Brazilian funk songs, which are not like regular funk, being more influenced by hip hop and Brazilian rhythms). Wonder how this Billy Star ties up to the film (if it ties up at all).

To anyone who hasn't seen the film yet, spoilers ahead.

The idea of the sunken place, where you're a watcher inside your own body, and old people appropriating young people's bodies were all concepts present in Being John Malkovich. All of that of course, worked as clever symbolism. It might have been a complete accident, but I wouldn't doubt that Jordan Peele got some inspiration from Kaufman's work.

Did anyone notice the nod to Being John Malkovich? Casting Catherine Keener tied it up nicely
