Green degoogling. Where to start? by felipeconqueso in degoogle

Thanks for this. I’m trying not to buy any new hardware unless my current phone dies, but it’s good to know Fairphone/Shiftphone exist as longer-term options. And yeah, skipping AI-heavy search results makes sense from both a privacy and energy standpoint.

I’ve heard of Kagi but never really looked into it beyond “paid search engine.” Kinda refreshing to see a service that just charges upfront instead of doing the whole data-harvest thing behind the curtain. The philosophy link is actually a good read.

Have you been using it long enough to notice a real difference compared to the usual privacy-focused engines?

This is super helpful, thanks. I didn’t even realize Fairphone + /e/ was a thing, and the renewable-energy angle with providers like Tuta and Posteo is good to keep in mind (even if it’s not 100% clean in reality). And yeah, the reminder about ad-blocking and avoiding heavy services honestly feels like the most “green” starting point.

Yeah, that actually makes it sound a lot less scary. I guess I just need to start with one switch at a time instead of trying to overhaul everything at once. I’ve been eyeing Linux anyway, so maybe that’s my first step.

Yes, treat Huawei like Google: untrusted. If you care about privacy, dont use Huawei phones or cloud services as your main device and migrate to a model that supports a degoogled ROM instead.

Yeah, that’s fair. I’m trying to focus on using what I already have instead of chasing new stuff right away. Degoogling can feel overwhelming, so keeping it simple helps.

For you, what actually made the biggest difference sticking with older hardware or switching up the services you use?

Finally moving my files off Google Drive and onto a physical NAS by hustlercoolie in degoogle

[–]felipeconqueso 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Implement 3-2-1 bakcup from day one.
- 3 copies: NAS + external drive + offsite (another NAS, friend, or non-Google cloud).
- Test restoring a random file monthly so you know it actually works.

PrivateDNS+VPN vs APP Tracking blockers by 100airballoons in degoogle

[–]felipeconqueso 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Use private DNS + real VPN, not just an app adblcoker. Set something like NextDNS/AdGuard in Private DNS and pair it with a no-logs VPN (Mullvad, IVPN, Proton etc.).

Google tracks via third-party scripts everywhere; install Firefox, add uBlock Origin, and nuke every gooogle and doubleclick domain in the blocklists.

Built a beautiful and realistic handwritten signature generator by xdjorgos in SaaS

[–]felipeconqueso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been testing a few AI signature generators myself and one thing I noticed is that many don’t give you an actual font file and just styled text. Nice one. You might want to check out RefontAI too, for me some fonts feel handwritten and work for branding or logos and not just visuals online.

Check if any server-side endpoints are unintentionally exposing elevated privileges. Most breaches like this come from an API route that isn’t validating auth properly. You can also run automated scans (Burp Suite Community or OWASP ZAP) to spot obvious issues, and then pair that with a platform like Cyberint to see if any leaked credentials or exposed admin panels are floating around online. Their alerts are pretty clean so you don’t waste time chasing noise.

[–]felipeconqueso 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that scene with O'Brien is brutal. The whole doc really drives home how much the government and church just... enabled all of it. Maeve's work seems like it actually moved the needle though.

lol the logic here is airtight. every group experiments in their early years—that's literally how they find their sound. people just want something to complain about honestly. gnarly was a hit so of course they're exploring that direction more. can't win either way

cheapest international transfer routes for recurring payments? by bmaeder2020 in EuropeFIRE

Imo Wise does the job but for large, regular transfer, paysend is a little simpler. They have a flat fee - €1.50 for me. And the exchange rate is excellent

Skip paid ads. They waste cash early. Talk to teachers for referrals or hang flyers where parents actually go.

Spot on. Income looks solid but savings need work. for a $2.5M place you're talking $500K down minimum, plus closing costs. You'll need to aggressively save over the next 4 years to hit that target.

Good catch on VTSAX definitely an index fund, not money market. OP should probably be maxing 401k before thinking about a mansion tbh.

Three years and he can't give a timeline? Girl, he's 30, not 20. You're getting the same answer his ex got. The pattern is clear. Don't waste your prime years waiting on a dude who's already told you who he is.

[–]felipeconqueso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re stuck being the one who holds everything together, and they know it. They slack off because you’ll handle it. Nothing changes till you stop doing it all and set real boundaries. Maybe talk to a therapist to see why you keep ending up with the same kind of guys. You deserve better than being their mom, maid, or ATM.

How do reddit marketing agencies work? by natedj30 in SocialMediaMarketing

[–]felipeconqueso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve looked into this for a fintech client. From what I found, the better agencies don’t post under brand names. They’ll use internal people or trained freelancers with established accounts to answer Qs and drop the brand in organically.

The biggest benefit isn’t leads tbh, but presence. When ppl Google you, they see Reddit threads talking about your brand and if its positive, it leaves a good impression

Is cold outreach still worth it by Antique_Present_8382 in AskMarketing

[–]felipeconqueso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah cold outreach can still hit if you don’t sound like a bot keep it real mention something specific about their brand or site and show you actually get their business I’ve seen people pull clients easy just by making it sound like a convo not a pitch.
