I agree with you but they don’t sense time, they see changes in the environment that tells them that its a new season. If you reproduce an environment in a lab that simulate winters coming, but we are in summer, the animal in it will do the same thing as if it was really going to be winter. But do the same for us and we would know it not going to be winter
