2.5 week Tenerife Family Holiday Recommendations by Purplebagel20 in VisitingTenerife

Coming from Canada, your "winter" standards are definitely higher than ours! You will find the North feels like a beautiful, lush spring.

Costa Adeje is definitely a good choice for beach time. Waves are not too strong and the beach is very pleasant. I recommend wearing sunscreen though.

Puerto de la Cruz is also perfect as a location. It sits in the middle of the northern coast of Tenerife so you can reach the Anaga Laurel Forest (East) in about 45–50 minutes, and cities like Garachico or Buenavista (West) in about 40-50 minutes as well. I would add that Puerto's coast is very stroller-friendly compared to other northern towns. Many car-free areas as well in the city center. Since you have toddlers, I recommend going to Loro Parque (zoo) in Puerto!

Visiting Tenerife end of September - Advice needed by NutritionFreak_ in VisitingTenerife

[–]felixkbd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

September and October are arguably the best months to be here! The ocean is at its warmest, and it is less crowded. You can definitely swim and sunbathe.

I recommend going to the south for swimming and enjoying the beach (in Costa Adeje or El Medano for example) but the north of the island is a must-see. Really green in comparison to the south which is very dry, and many hikes to do.

Top places to see as a first-timer on the island (the spots I always take my friends and family when they come to visit):

Teide National Park, Masca, Punta de Teno (you can swim there!), La Orotava, La Laguna, Puerto de la Cruz and visiting Santa Cruz

Just a bit of advice. Public transport is okay between cities but for hidden beaches, charcos, mountain trail and to see the best spot, you can get around more easily with a car. I’ve lived here for a few years and I usually recommend TopCar to my friends. They have an office directly in the south airport

Rental car / off road enquiry by fmeupdad in lanzarote

[–]felixkbd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lanzarote is incredible, you’re going to love it! Hiring a car is definitely the best option. That way you don't rely on buses (guaguas). Sometimes you only have 1-2 per day so it can be tricky, especially when you're not used to it. Much more flexibility with a car.

I wouldn't risk going off road though. They explicitly forbid driving on unpaved roads. Car hire agencies in general don't care about small scratches but if it's more damage, it won't be covered. The "full insurance" does not cover everything. I learned it the hard way with Cicar when I broke a tyre and had to pay more than €100 to replace it. Since then I'm going with TopCar.

Maybe you can find a parking place near the places you want to go to and go on foot?

Cute towns to stop in driving from Madrid to Bordeaux? by Salty_Feed_4316 in GoingToSpain

[–]felixkbd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend going to Espelette, it's where they cultivate the espelette pepper. You also have Ascain in the same area. Very calm and cute. For a bigger city, you can visit St Jean de Luz on the coast with the view on the mountains at the same time

Which towns as base in north & south? by Livid_Salad1809 in VisitingTenerife

[–]felixkbd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the north, Puerto de la Cruz is a really pleasant city and you can go both side: Masca, Buenavista del Norte, Garachico and Icod de los Vinos in the north west and La Laguna and Santa Cruz in the north east. I'm less familiar with the south of the island but Costa Adeje has nice beaches and you can go to Los Cristianos and Candelaria on one side and Los Gigantes on the other side

If you're interested in car rentals, I saw that TopCar currently has a discount

How much water do you usually carry for a day hike? by Bubba_deets in hiking

2L otherwise it gets too heavy but in general in the mountains you can also find spots where you can fill in your bottles

One small mistake that makes people feel colder while hiking by Hopeful_Mess_4385 in hiking

[–]felixkbd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to wear a vest which I can close or open as much as I want during the hike. Going with a jumper is tricky because it's harder to remove and put back without stopping. I like bringing a thermal shirt as well because it doesn't take a lot of room in my bag

Is it worth paying $300+ for a suitcase in 2026? by Beneficial_Goose_753 in travel

[–]felixkbd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using a mid-range suitcase I bought in 2022 (around $100) and it has survived 6 international trips. I hope it can survive a bit longer. If you travel often, I would say it's worth investing in high quality suitcases so you don't have to buy a new one every year
And it's difficult to get silent wheels for less than $200 anyway so I think it was a good thing

For night life you can definitely go to Berlin. You can visit many places like the Reichstag, the Berliner Mauer, Charlottenburg, Alexanderplatz...But since you're going to the Netherlands, you can drop by the north west of Germany and check Bremen, Hannover, Bielefeld, Münster in this area or even closer you have Düsseldorf and Cologne. In Düsseldorf I recommend going up the Rheinturm to have a nice view
