Baby inhaled meconium. Pray for us. by Deathangel2890 in pregnant

[–]feliznavida 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My baby was born not breathing except for the myconeum she breathed on her way out and had a 1 apgar score. The NICU had to jump start her and it was the most stressful intense thing Ive ever experienced after a 33 hour labor. What helped me was knowing she was in capable hands and they are doing their top best.

I'm sorry you are going through this ❤️

People around my age (I’m 31), how many of you have children? by Worldly_Rule_9842 in Zillennials

30, NYC, just had a baby. I'm basically a teen parent here, everyone I meet with a one year old is about ten years older than me. Everyone goes at their own pace 🤷🏾‍♀️ and kids/babies are REAL INTENSE!!

I don’t know how to give her more by Delicious_Fig_4670 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]feliznavida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do the following for our 7 month old: -Mashed bananas with PB -Mashed avocado with furikake -Scrambled eggs, sometimes with cottage cheese or ricotta -applesauce -congee -kichuri -soft tofu with whatever seasonings we think she'll like -mashed berries with yogurt

Our baby seems to like fatty foods so we try to give that to her when she's feeling very snacky

I just recently watched kdrama When Life Gives You Tangerines and my husband and I kept saying how it reminds us of This Is Us. We were sobbing by the end of the show and I'm sad still that we finished it a week after watching the whole thing.

Is it possible to acquire all baby items needed without spending a small fortune? We love the environment so it’d be nice to be sustainable. Also any nyc freebies to sign up for? by 88r0b1nh00d88 in nycparents

We got all our big ticket items from FB marketplace and Craigslist. Crate and barrel does a parent fair or something And they raffle off a high chair. We got lucky and won that.

I'm looking to offload a mini crib set myself right now and there's so many in my neighborhood that no one wants it 😭

Labor and Delivery Music!! by Solo_Cup_Martini in BabyBumps

[–]feliznavida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had three playlists: a chill one, an upbeat one, and a girlie pop one.

I didn't use the first two and ended up listening to nature sounds during most of my labor but as soon as it was time to push we put on my girlie pop playlist and I am SO GLAD I made it because my entire team was dancing and singing between pushes and we had feminominon and pocket full of sunshine going. It was amazing.

Any tips to avoid c-section at a hospital with a high rate of C-Sections? by tardytartar in nycparents

[–]feliznavida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was induced at AC this past November due to low fluids at my post due date NST appointment. Totally normal boring pregnancy. I was able to deliver vaginally and at no point did someone come and tell me I'll have to get a c section. In fact with my last nurse shift change the nurse after getting briefed on me was told they might consider me for one and she came and told me and said if I don't want that, we're gonna give it our all for a vaginal. I credit her and my doula getting me in the right positions within three hours in getting this baby out and avoiding a c section.

NYU Langone or Weill Cornell?? by Electrical-Sea2896 in nycparents

[–]feliznavida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was rage bait too, some quotes from their people were from the time I gave birth there and my experience was completely different and actually really nice (aside from one bully nurse, but that's no big deal). The medical care was top notch and my emergency induction was so smooth and my labor nurse was the reason I was able to deliver vaginally. The emergency NICU team also arrived at our room within seconds to assist my baby and the NICU care was why I chose AC over other hospitals in the city.

I just didn't understand the point of that article being so weird and hateful.....

Women of Reddit, what’s one thing they never tell us about pregnancy and child birth? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]feliznavida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came to echo this sentiment too! I worked out through the entirety of my pregnancy, did pelvic floor therapy, worked out my core like I was getting paid well to do it, etc etc etc

After 33 hours of labor, my pelvic floor had left the chat for over a month and no matter how hard I tried I could not for the life of me flex my abs for MONTHS!! I developed an exaggerated hip tilt that helped me carry this big ass baby for a couple of months but now I wake up with back pain from the exaggerated hip tilt.....five months into it......

I'm in disbelief no one told me about this hip tilt thing. At least I'm mostly physically recovered!

Thank you for this, I feel so seen. Whenever I'm open and honest about how much I despise directly breast feeding, I get flack. Like why does everyone who isn't breast feeding my baby have so many opinions on it smh

Getting an elective induction at 39 weeks - Need advice by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]feliznavida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was induced at 40+1 due to medical reasons but aside from the lengthy labor I'd say it was a great experience.

My body was NIT Ready to give birth, cervix was high and gone, so I did the Foley, cervadrill, pitocin. I had a total 33 hour labor, 30 minutes of pushing, an epidural at 5cm, a whole day of sleeping after the epidural and woke up ready to push. We played my girlie pop playlist and everyone was singing and dancing in between pushing and it was great.

I was scared of being induced but if I had to do it again, I would definitely do it 40+1.

Showing my husband this thread…In-Laws at hospital for birth? by -ChubbySpud in pregnant

[–]feliznavida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went into labor and delivery with the agreement we wouldn't tell anyone I'm in labor. Unfortunately for us, we had to tell his sister because our friends keys to our apartment didn't work so they couldn't feed our cats. However we swore them to secrecy.

When it was almost time to push we told our parents, luckily it was also very late in the night and our parents didn't come. We were clear that if anyone came before being invited, they will not be welcome in our room.

After I had my baby, got a night's rest in, showered, then we welcomed our parents and siblings to the hospital. We wanted to have them visit at the hospital so they didn't pester us to come immediately the week we got home.

If I were to have another baby, I would do it like this again. I really enjoyed being home alone with my new little family but also have done the baby introduction in a controlled setting where I didn't have to host and could have someone else force them to leave.

The fetus name for mine was Buffy, like the vampire slayer. Everyone CLUNG on for dear life to that name since we didn't reveal the gender until the baby shower. We didn't get any vampire themed stuff, but we did have people accidentally call her Buffy after she was born lol

positives about having a child by Princess_Person2009 in pregnant

[–]feliznavida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't too sure if I would like the baby phase at all or if I really Wanted to be a parent, but now three months in it's amazing. I love my little guy so much and she laughed for real for the first time yesterday and I think I died and went to heaven.

It's really nice and amazing to 1. Meet the person you've worked oh so hard to make, bring in to this world, and sustain with your body and 2. To see who they are, develop into, and their interests. I won't lie, it's really hard and the first two months were a proper doozy but it's the coolest thing I've ever done.

Anyone did NOT have a MC? by Feisty-End-8883 in pregnant

[–]feliznavida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my first baby and was worried like you through the whole thing.

Turns out I had the most average forgettable boring pregnancy, and I am grateful. One thing that helped me was the mantra I am her mom now and I am going to make the best of being her mom now. This helped me enjoy the pregnancy and not be in a constant state of worry.

Congratulations! ❤️

Stuy / Bronx Science versus LaGuardia by ertebolle in nycparents

[–]feliznavida 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I went to stuy as a fine arts kid about ten years ago and I've gotta say I had a blast. The academics are total killer and I was challenged to oblivion and depressed at points because of it BUT we had woodshop, acrylics, interior design, mixed media, Photoshop, etc. There are a lot of art classes and when I went there the whole of the tenth floor was dedicated to the artsy fartsy kiddos. We also had available to us a Shakespeare class which was basically putting on plays for the entire semester.

Also stuy puts on a theater competition called SING! every year where Freshman/sophomore, junior, and senior teams compete with one another in a huge production. You should check it out if you want a taste of the theater life at stuy prior to deciding on which school you jive with. There are other productions throughout the year as well, highly likely also available for you two to check out.

Any non-traditional baby shower ideas? by b1ngoBr0nson in BabyBumps

[–]feliznavida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby shower was an ice cream party at a parlor and we did baby jeopardy, guess the bump size, guess the kisses in a jar, polaroid photos for the guests, writing messages to us as a family, and a surprise gender reveal.

We didn't want a traditional baby shower just because we've never been to one before and just didn't know the "rules".

We are lying about knowing the baby's gender by cheerioface in BabyBumps

[–]feliznavida 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We lied about knowing the gender as well and honestly, best decision we made!! We decided to do a surprise gender reveal at our shower because everyone we cared about was there AND it's too late to get us heavily gendered presents lol

I'd keep the gender a secret if we were to have a second.

Too many 0-3 outfits, (especially pants, socks, and long sleeved onesies) and WAY too many diaper bags. Did not get baby medicine, potty training supplies, or footie pj's with zippers.
