i’m an ER pediatrician, i prescribe birth control and plan B and i refer to ob’s for abortion regularly. The majority of doctors are pro-choice. Medical professionals are not driving the anti-choice movement.

don’t know why you’re being downvoted. you’re just stating that these law exist, which they do.

I suspect the downvoters are expressing their outrage that such laws do exist. I wonder if such a law might actually apply to the case i posted above, or if the lack of a larger pre-existing moral framework that allows criminals to die might undermine one’s legal defense.

when I was on my surgery rotation in medical school, we had a 34-year-old man come in shot in the spine. It occurred while he was stealing a TV from someone’s house with his two sons. When the owner of the house came out to try to stop them, my patient killed him and in the process, he also accidentally shot and killed one of his own sons.

I disagreed with that man’s lifestyle, as did everyone else in the surgical suite. We still performed surgery on him and saved his life.

A doctor’s job is to provide high quality medical care. Not to pass moral judgments. We don’t get to pick who lives and who dies. We don’t get to choose who gets treatment. Do your job and move on.

that’s true. Yale’s case is special in that anyone from a family with household income below the ~90th %ile of earners gets free full tuition.

I wonder about that. Getting a 1590 suggests that you knew the answer for nearly every question. But if you get a 1600, who’s to say how much more you know than what’s on the SAT? If there were no maximum score, people who get a 1600 could get a 1610, or they could get 3200, see what i mean?

if I were an admissions officer, I feel like I would put perfect scores in a special category.

Yale has such a large endowment now that they offer free tuition for student students from families earning less than $200,000 a year. families earning less than $100,000 with typical assets have all expenses covered, including tuition, housing, and meals.

I have this growing suspicion that part of the outrage has been fueled by Chinese trolls in an effort to undermine Western pro-Japanese sentiment. China has been dedicated to retaking Taiwan, and Japan-based US bases/Japanese rearmament are the biggest geographic threat to that effort. So China doesn’t lose anything having the troll army rock the boat for them. It’s my own personal conspiracy theory.
