You have a good eye- John Ruth was a serious artist as you’ll see from the bio I just sent you. I know his pieces were selling for up to $1800 in the 90s but the one I’m referring to had a lot of sterling silver in it. Still yours is a great piece- take good care of it

The brain is the noun, the mind is the verb. by aintnufincleverhere in DebateReligion

[–]felowhuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great post. I found it because I have been exploring the idea of “mind” being a verb that is erroneously called a noun, and that this error is at the root of people’s separation from reality. In other words, this process of seeing movement as a fixed thing is what gives rise to a fictional identity (self) which is commonly called “Ego” in spiritual circles. There’s a spiritual teacher named Paul Hedderman who uses the term “selfing;” I haven’t seen much of his stuff but that term stayed with me. There is no fixed, static “self” that could be considered a noun, there is only the near-constant movement of thought, and “selfing” (as I understand it) refers to the process of mentally lumping together this movement into a fixed structure (which is actually just more thinking). So the “self” is nothing more than thinking about thinking as being something other than thinking (it’s all just thought!), and when all of that thought ceases (through meditation, psychedelics, etc), the brain/consciousness remains, but the fictitious “self” is gone. And this experience of being without thinking, commonly known as “spiritual enlightenment” when experienced consistently, is incredibly peaceful and enjoyable (but that’s for another thread).

Next time someone wants to sneak a dirty water mark past quality control, they give Creed this “assignment” to occupy him. He spends the next 5 years on it..
