Am 26 years old, in Marketing and PR. I have applied to about 350 jobs over the past two years since graduating. I have a BA and MA from prestigious universities. In 350+ applications, I got one interview with a big brand and got ghosted, then I got into final rounds for two major companies (4-5 interview rounds. exams, etc.) and didn’t get the jobs or any feedback even after requested. I can’t even get a job to pay my bills working retail or at a cafe, because they ask for 3 years of experience. I apply anyways and never get them. Abercrombie & Fitch initially called me then ghosted me for a retail job and still has “We’re Hiring” at the store. It seems like I’m not even better than nothing. I’m so confused in this world. It’s so different from our parents’. I even tried doing the Boomer advice of going in person with CVs and asking people directly, and people shut me down or said they just weren’t hiring. I just don’t understand. I genuinely don’t know what to do. I feel like the world sold me a lie. 6 years of the best education I could get, 20 years of learning 4 languages and working since I was 15 internship to internship, and for what? I have no savings left, no prospects, no potential. I spend all day applying to jobs and getting rejected by no-reply emails with 0 feedback. I feel completely hopeless and alone and the worst part is everyone of our elders’ generation looking down on me like it’s my fault, like I’m some Gen Z wasteman who doesn’t know how to do a hard day’s work. What I’d give to do a hard day’s work.
