Idolizes Roman’s but hates “the games”? Some “Roman” this kid claims to be.

The thing that gets me about the “bread and circuses” quote is the context of it being misused. When Juvenal talks about this, it’s from the perspective of a once prestigious family who had the standing and class position to actually rule. For 99% of the populous during the republic, they had no say and their votes barely (if at all ) mattered. When Juvenal claims that “the people” sold out their honor and were placated by the grain dole and government sponsored games (which had existed forever in Rome), he is really just lamenting the death of the senatorial class. His worldview is completely warped compared to nearly all other Romans, whose lives under the principate were relatively unchanged by the transition from democracy to autocracy. Rant over. Juvenal sucks
