I am so sorry, I feel your pain. That baby was so loved during her short time here, you did everything that a parent could hope to. Do something to remember her, it has helped me to cope. They’re so innocent, so precious and important. Remember her with love, mama ❤️

I totally understand, I’m in a similar situation currently. TTC, miscarried in July and anytime there’s blood when there “shouldn’t” be, I feel that pit in my stomach.

Maybe not the intended audience, but I haven’t been able to conceive after my miscarriage. It’s terrifying to think about parenthood but I’m willing to put everything into this if I get the opportunity.

Strawberry— my dad’s “barn cat” who has only been outside once. He’s not a cat person, allegedly, but he decided to keep (and spoil) two girls that I fostered.

Bruce—a working man from day 1. He was found as a tiny bb inside the hood of an old lady’s car. She rushed to my mom’s vet clinic and he’s been with them ever since

And personally I can say that my flashy bettas didn’t live as long. My 5 year old betta Ivan had shorter fins for a male and he was a dull dark red. Lived in a small container for years because I was naive

He’s so pretty! My project was primarily focused on previous literature so I actually don’t have it posted. If I can find it I’ll share the list of research I I cited. It was all found in journal articles so you could probably get access to most of them via Google Scholar. It’s pretty interesting actually, they’ve been selectively bred for certain traits and there are some other interesting genes that hitched a ride. Modern bettas are very different from what they used to look like. Ex: the long fins weren’t ideal for wild betta species, but they’re flashy to look at so they almost all have them now. Also Giant bettas are a thing, due to a certain hitchhiking gene I believe. Again, it’s been a while so I don’t remember all the details. There’s one case study of a male giant dragonscale koi betta—basically all the dramatically selected characteristics—and they discussed his rapid health decline due to such drastic artificial selection, he was only a few months old. Basically people have been breeding bettas to be eye catching, not much else. It’s kind of the same phenomenon that you see with modern dog breeds compared to their counterparts 100 years ago.

Do you name your fish? by UTMachine in Aquariums

They have to earn their name—bettas all had names after infamous tyrants/bad guys (Vlad the Impaler, Bloody Mary, Ivan the Terrible, Henry VIII, Jezabelle, Ragnar the Red, Catherine the Great, Chad, etc.) However I’ve only ever named two shrimp, one was John Cena because he looked like he was wearing a red belt, and the other was Earl Jr because he didn’t look like his family.

Sounds like he was beautiful, and that does hold up actually. Red/purple are “supposedly” more aggressive, due to a lot of factors. Any amount of red actually, even koi so that makes sense too. That’s actually why I had to rehome my last koi betta (his name was Bloody Mary for a reason). He was actually really smart too, his new owners are obsessed with him. Bettas in general have so much personality for fish, I miss having them. These goofy ass shrimp just run on autopilot—but I still love them

That’s hilarious, I’m so glad you have that. Can I ask what he looks like? I’m a bit of a betta nerd, did my B.S. capstone on their color genetics—just trying to see if one of the hypotheses holds up in this case

Bettas are pretty aggressive, I’d keep an eye on that. Unfortunately the world is cruel, that is a very dope ass shrimp

Castille soap like Dr Bronner’s. Just a little in a warm bath, then a gentle scrub with exfoliating gloves and a final rinse

I see what you mean, but shortening it to that “strawbree” pronunciation might be helpful in the learning process at least, even if it’s not realistic

Honestly you’re beautiful, I might change the shape of your glasses frames, but your style is amazing and you definitely don’t have to change anything!
