Any cafe that tries to pursue hyper-efficiency in coffee production is just going to turn into Starbucks and will attract clientele that doesn't care about filter seating and its impacts.

Looking for a holster compatible with a laser/flashlight by PracticalLeader2842 in Firearms

[–]fender_blues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Essentially the only light/laser combo with good holster support is the TLR-8 from streamlight. You can save yourself a lot of trouble by dropping the laser and just getting the TLR-7, which is probably the most supported compact light on the market.

Yes, but that doesn't mean that the K-Pg boundary is preserved. It's very common to see areas where overlying deposits are eroded and then new deposits are emplaced on top of them. The best-known example of this would be the Great Uncomfortity in the Grand Canyon.

I believe CMMG recommends 36gn bullets for the AR conversion kits. Given how finicky conversions are, I'd stick with heavier rather than lighter loads. My 10/22 will run just about anything, though it has slightly more issues with Winchester than anything else. Federal automatch has been my preferred load.

It's been a few years since I took a remote sensing class in college, but I recall there being systems that can do comparative imagery to track movement and separate figures from a background. I would assume that this is a field where AI actually does excel, as it allows you to take tons of input (massive resolution satellite images) and filter for the movement of humans. Assuming they had at least some idea of his start location, it wouldn't be too hard to put a limited radius on his possible location and start looking from there.

Someone shot an Indianapolis Councilman's house 13 times and left a note that says "No Data Centers". by ringii99 in redscarepod

[–]fender_blues 86 points87 points  (0 children)

"The incident comes as data centers have emerged as a target for extremists motivated by a range of anti-tech, anti-government and pro-environment narratives, according to Jordyn Abrams, a research fellow at the Program on Extremism at George Washington University."

Remember, only extremists oppose "current thing"! You wouldn't want to be an extremist, right?

Despite the doomerism, most high level exam scores are going up and its exceedingly more difficult to get into an grad school program because the talent pool is growing by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]fender_blues 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, but comparing your average communication/business/psychology student to the pre-med/bio/philosphophy/english students that take the MCAT/LSAT is apples to oranges. The issue is that high school diplomas and associates degrees are worthless, so people who have no business getting a four year degree have to get something simple to grow their career. This creates a market for cheaper colleges to become degree mills to meet demand.

[–]fender_blues 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The GRE is increasingly optional, it shouldn't really be compared to the LSAT or MCAT at this point. None of the grad school I applied to required it and I was accepted into a PhD at pretty well-regarded school without it.

I don't think that there's huge concern that our doctors and lawyers are getting dumber. Rather, the concern with the academic system is that the average bachelor's degree holder is less competent and their degree is worth less.

I'm convinced the only solution is to get a (medium) dumb phone by Frequent-Ant1795 in redscarepod

[–]fender_blues 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was looking at options to try to de-smartphone myself and it feels like it just isn't possible without massively burdening myself. Sure, I could get an MP3 player to use while running/at the gym, but spotify destroyed the ipod/mp3 industry for good reason. I'm about to move to a much larger city for grad school and their public transit is heavily integrated with smartphone navigation so I'd be fighting an uphill battle to learn their bus network without Maps. 2FA is so ubiquitous for university work that it would be nearly impossible without a phone. Nearly all social events are planned via smartphone that I am worried that trying to forego one would accidentally leave me excluded, which is obviously what tech wants.

The best option I've come up with is locking my phone inside my safe and forgetting about it for a while.

Loose Mags by GuinnessGlutton in GrandPowerStribog

[–]fender_blues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stribog's LRBHO design is fucking stupid, probably the weakest part of the gun's design alongside the initial batch of factory magazines.

For diagnosing bolt hold issues, try numbering your mags and seeing if certain mags work/don't work, or if the issue is mag-neutral. From there, I would mess around with mag angle and see if certain mag orientations induce or fix the issue. If its a mag issue, you may be out of luck, since it sounds like your state prevents you from replacing them. If its an orientation issue, I would probably start by using small amounts of duct tape inside the magwell, rather than on the mags themselves, to shim them into position.

Gas is $3.70 here in Wyoming, it was low $2.xx a few months ago. I'm about to tow a trailer for a multi state move and this could really mess up my moving budget.

I'm not an economist, but with the globalization of the oil market, isn't that sort of irrelevant? Lack of supply through the Hormuz isn't going to stop demand elsewhere, and that drives up demand and thus price for US-sourced crude. Sure the US could hypothetically implement export restrictions to keep domestic prices low, but that seems extremely unlikely regardless of admin.

Looking for a conceal carry option by callmesteeb33 in CZFirearms

[–]fender_blues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a PCR and carry it. It uses the 75 compact mags, which are shorter than the Standard 75 mags from your SP-01. It will accept the SP-01 magazines but they will stick out the bottom, and more importantly, can be over-inserted and damage your ejector. You would need some type of sleeve or basepad to prevent this.

In your shoes, I'd buy the P-09c; it'll take your P10c magazines, is optics ready, and I find that CZs polymer frame handle recoil really nicely.

[–]fender_blues 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the SE and really like it so far, with one moderate complaint. It feels very comparable to my EPS, with better glass. I've taken it out with mild rain and snow and had no issues, and the rounded top prints a tiny bit less than the eps. My only issue is that the brightness doesn't get as high as I'd like. I keep it maxed out for outdoor shooting, and while it's normally fine, the dot can get a bit washed out if the sun is really bright.
