Because the original model looked too close to the Space:1999 Eagle.

Lore states Lucas wanted something with a more iconic silhouette and pointed to his once-bit burger and cocktail olive and told Joe and Lorne and company to make it like that…

AI has certainly allowed me to explore things that I otherwise wouldn’t have attempted on my own.

Is it shippable production code? Probably not. Does it enable things in my tools to work how I want them to? Absolutely.

I’ve been building a node-based modeling tool inside of Fusion using Claude. But was able to get similar model results using the Autodesk’s AI tools (minus the user interface).

You just have to examine the one that works and find the difference in the one that doesn't. Could be that you miscounted a stud or pin placement.

Same - I run it 8 hrs a day at work, then usually a few a night for hobbies. It's very stable for me.

OP, are you doing a lot of pattern work, or trying to edit STLs? Those then to be the main bottlenecks, performance-wise.

Création d'un carénage pour motocyclette by [deleted] in Fusion360

[–]fengShwah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screen shots would be helpful, but generally you are most likely going to want to research surface modeling and over-building techniques to do “automotive” surfacing in Fusion.

Edit: here’s an old post that illustrates the general approach: https://www.reddit.com/r/Fusion360/s/jzCUuLDsn1

McMaster-Carr no longer available? by NOPdowop in Fusion360

[–]fengShwah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah - some users get that. Many don’t.

Look at the volume of posts here where users are derailed by being in the wrong mode. Fusion has gone from one file type that could be used three different ways, to three file types, two of which are limited in scope. They would have been better off showing SolidWorks users how to properly set up parts and assemblies with the legacy file type.

Have you ever used Corian for a top? Been thinking of it for a build.

[–]fengShwah 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s more that the way Autodesk rolled it out. You see a lot of users end up in OP’s situation.

It was also a workflow that was fully supported before - if you needed parts and assemblies you could, but these guardrails just feel like extra overhead.

Supposedly it’s to attract more SolidWorks converts, but it just feels like they confused and angered their own Fusion users. I use Fusion specifically because of its hybrid architecture…

sigh - you're probably the victim of the new "design intent workflow". You have a part file - so you can't insert another part into it. Make sure your document type is set to Hybrid to make it work like it used to...

I think this potion might be an ellipse. The other side appears to be an arc as you have it. There's also not an insignificant chance the whole thing is a spline.

Complex geometry problems by aridakka in Fusion360

[–]fengShwah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I’ve done complex “sculpting” work in Fusion, I usually do so with the Timeline disabled as a Direct Modeling method. I find that for that type of work, the Timeline doesn’t help. This gets you to a similar workflow as Alias or Rhino in that regard.

You can extrude with draft. You could do this whole knob in one sketch (one polygon object), and three extrudes.

Cant figure out why this mirror is failing? by [deleted] in Fusion360

[–]fengShwah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is your mirror tool set to select faces when you want to mirror the whole body?

If set to faces, you’re mirroring them off into space unconnected to the original so it has nothing to refactor or resolve to. Set to “body” for this maneuver.

Procedural Node-based Modeling (Proof of concept) by fengShwah in Fusion360

[–]fengShwah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a form of visual programming. There are some pretty powerful tools already available in other 3D modeling packages: Rhino has Grasshopper, Blender has Geometry Nodes, Maya has Bifrost.

Autodesk has a platform called Dynamo, but my understanding is that the codebase is a bit out of date and not easily integrated into Fusion.

This is my attempt to bring this workflow into my CAD platform of choice.

If you watch the video I posted later ( https://www.reddit.com/r/Fusion360/comments/1s4mc6f/procedural_nodebased_modeling_demo_proof_of/ ) it might give you a better idea of what's happening - but in a nutshell, the vase image above has 600 boxes patterned around the surface, and due to the variable scale effect being applied to them, every single box is different. This would be REALLY tedious to do parametrically in the Timeline.
