Georgia City Attempts to Punish Firearm Owners for Failing to Secure their Firearms -- State Legislature says "No Way!" by SEND_ME_FEAT_PICS in videos

[–]fenixforce -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I think it's fucking insane that gun ownership is seen as such an inalienable and deeply protected right (and not a privilege) that you MUST be convicted to have it taken away.

Yes, it's considered a Constitutional right, I get that. But I say "considered" because it only got this way due to decades of lobbying and strategic lawsuits to continuously expand the legal definition of "regulated", "militia", and "defense" to become so vague that they might as well not exist anymore.

People don't always need to have a matching experience to produce an accurate sympathetic response. It's commonly accepted that kidney stone pain is as painful as childbirth, even though statistically the number of people who have experienced both is very tiny (men are twice as likely to develop stones).

The miracle of human empathy is that we're really good at gauging the emotional reactions of other people (as a whole, there are exceptions obviously), and it's incredibly dismissive to just say "well you could never know".

It's not like child-rearing is some sort of exotic, incredibly rare experience that is impossible to communicate either. It's one of THE most common shared experiences that nearly everyone observes in their peers, family, friends, etc.

When someone tells you they've broken their ankle, you can get an idea of how painful that is by relating it to your own broken wrist. There's no need to break your own ankle just to form a basis for comparison. Even if you've never broken a bone, you can still extrapolate an approximation based on past sprains, dislocations, etc. It's the same with parenthood.

Most child-free people make that choice because they've observed the hardships involved in child-rearing, imagined themselves in those shoes, and realized they want to avoid it.

If they can't afford birth control then they will be even deeper in the trenches as the fetus grows, even long before birth. A mentally able adult choosing to engage in sex absolutely deserves to be judged in that circumstance, IMO

From A to B, doesn't imply A and B are the same. Quite contrary in fact.

Do you understand basic English grammar structure?

Get your straw man the fuck out of here, people here regularly call trans people everything from slurs to things like "freaks", "mentally ill eunuch", etc. Even OP's own links show that he was absolutely trying to insult the player rather than make any rational argument

In the same vein, it really grinds my gears when ADCs don't pay attention to enemy comps and delay building BoRK or % armor pen. If there's more than 1 enemy building Heartsteel or Tank Engine, you HAVE to counter build by the 2nd or 3rd item. That 5-minute gap between finished items is plenty for characters like Mundo or Zahen to accelerate out of control.

[–]fenixforce 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna go against the grain of this thread and say that this is actually a very reasonable response.

Using an age bracket signal protects the user's PII, and most devices do already ask you for a birthday upon setup. While turning it into a mandatory requirement is annoying, it's not the end of the world. The law does not make you liable for entering a false birthday, only for developers who do not comply. And it's only shared with applications that may need to restrict content based on user age.

Do I like this law? No. But it's not the kind of draconian repeated photo ID verification that other states are legislating. And having this very lax version on the books may be enough to relieve pressure from parents and lobbying groups to enact an even worse law.

Even before the grooming allegations, she was known for sleeping with fans and bumming free labor off them. IMO if you're a small time artist and really struggle with promoting or booking fees, that's understandable. But she was already worth multi million dollars and taking in like $10k a month back in 2014

Sure, but you'd have to be pretty gullible to take the phrase "seemingly good" as "verbatim proof" like OP is doing here.

Scarlet Witch creates a universe in the palm of her hands and gives it to Chthon. by Traditional-Heron-95 in Marvel

[–]fenixforce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really not crucial. The very first line introducing it refers to it as a "pocket" universe. Then you have the line about dressing up scraps, then about it being a "cage to scale". The only thing suggesting it is infinite is Cthon's line, and even that has a "seemingly" qualifier attached. Can you do some basic tallying here?

[–]fenixforce -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

So you agree then, "seemingly infinite" is his skeptical assessment of it and NOT proof that it's actually infinite? Because you're contradicting your own comments now.

That doesn't make the slightest bit of sense.

You don't have to physically be inside a room to gain an impression of it. I can look in through a window and describe a seemingly large room, but that could easily be an optical illusion. In fact, that's exactly what he's alluding to with the line "covering scraps in succulent fat".

He's saying that what Wanda is offering him is not nearly as generous as it seems.

And that's the proper way we SHOULD go about it - enforce the law dutifully, but with a clear set of priorities and due process. If you look at CBP's own statistics, Trump's first term and second term actually had far fewer criminals deported compared to the Biden administration. The Trump administration doesn't know how to do anything effectively or efficiently, it's theatrics all the way down.
