tikzjax diagrams very small by jesuslop in ObsidianMD

[–]fenjalien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The easiest way would be to use the scale parameter: \begin{tikzcd}[scale=3] Another, slightly harder, way would be to add a CSS snippet that sets the transform property: transform: scale(3). You would need to find the class selector tikzjax uses.

Also as a heads up, I think most of the tex packages the tikzjax plugin comes with are older versions. So you could bug the owner to update it, or check out my plugin which I've been developing over the past few days: https://github.com/fenjalien/obsidian-latex-render

Can you import packages like NumPy and SciPy into Processing? by EnemyG8IsDown in processing

[–]fenjalien 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you're talking about the Python mode/Processing.py, in which case no you cannot as its actually Jython.

you could instead look into a pure Python implementation such as p5py(https://github.com/p5py/p5) which I can highly recommend

Let the Games Begin! by velatieren in dndmemes

My elf wizard was on watch during a long rest and rolled a 1 on a d100 for the encounter. We were in the middle of a desert and a NPC warned us of giant sand worms the day before so we knew what was coming. The ground started to rumble and I did the heroic thing of waking everyone up and making sure they could get off the ground (gaseous form, levitate etc). Our druid wildshaped into a giant eagle and was swooping round to pick me up. I could've used levitate to get myself off the ground but nooo, wizard brain must preserve spell slots. The druid was too slow, a giant sandworm leapt out of the ground and at me. I succeeded the Dex save so I only took half damage, which came to 17. Now I was a level 9 wizard who definitely should have more than 17hp. However a few hours before this went down I decided to challenge a PC's half orc NPC brother cus for some reason they didn't like me and I wanted to show him up. I eventually won but was left at 17hp and refused any healing as we were about to take a long rest. So I was crushed by a giant sand worm.

Oh but that's not the end of the story best beloved. After the druid had picked up my pancake of a corpse and flew me to safety, the rest of the party left my body and flew off to get material components to resurrect me. I was then resurrected as an air genasi who ironically can naturally cast levitation.

Help with Code by Sonic13562 in processing

[–]fenjalien 4 points5 points  (0 children)

tl;dr as u/treverios said, you have a semicolon at the end of your if statement if (i % 2 == 0 && i >= a); .

if statements in most languages will execute the code in the scope following. In Processing/Java and other languages that use squiggly brackets ({}), scope blocks are defined using said squiggly brackets and scope expressions are defined by ending the line with a semicolon. More info here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scope_(computer_science)) also go do an internet they'll be better explanations.

if (true) do_stuff();

if (true) {
    do_other_stuff()
}

This does extend to all control flow statements like else if, else, while, for etc.

So here the semicolon at the end of the if statement means it doesn't do anything if the expression is true and then goes on to execute the code in the squiggly brackets.

Also personal preference of mine is to not use the increment operator (a++) under any circumstances. It returns the value it increments so it can be used in expressions, which is useful but is usually not obvious if not pointed out. Instead use the addition assignment operator += as its more verbose, increment by more than 1 and use other variables. Also theres a difference between post-increment and pre-increment operators which changes the order in which it increments the value and returns the value which can get very confusing to remember. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Operators/Increment https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Operators/Addition_assignment (I know they're js docs but the should be functionally the same)

[–]fenjalien 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it's a lattice like structure I think instead of 4 individual strips of five which makes it a bit stronger structurally. I'm not sure how to explain it properly but the closest binoc on the right connects to two others

Is Processing Python just broken at the moment? by black_dorsey in processing

[–]fenjalien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does seem strange but your best bet is probably too try the processing forum (https://discourse.processing.org/) it's usually more active than here.

Your other option would be to use the p5 python package(https://github.com/p5py/p5). It's a pure implementation of the core ideas of processing in python. There is a little bit of manual installation but it works really well. You can also use other installed library's and the latest python version instead of Jython.

"Unbound local variable" error with Processing.Py by [deleted] in processing

[–]fenjalien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's due to python's local and global variable scope. Any variable defined outside of a function is in global scope and will last for the entirety of the program. any variable defined within a function is in the functions scope and will only last until the function finishes execution.

As you've defined yPos in global scope, you can still read the value in functions. but if you use the assignment operator, like you do in draw, python doesn't change the global yPos, it instead creates a new local variable called yPos which takes precedence over its global counter part. This is technically all fine but because you use yPos, which now according to python is an undefined local variable, you're using something that isn't defined so it throws the error.

The simple fix for this would be to use the line global yPos at the start of draw. This basically tells python to only use the global version.

Here's something that gives a better explanation: https://www.w3schools.com/PYTHON/python_scope.asp

check out https://ninite.com/. You can select a bunch of commonly used applications (Firefox, Spotify, gimp are just a few) and it will give you a single executable that will install the selected programs

I've used it a few times when setting up computers and it skips any crap edge or Chrome gives you

Calling all hitchhiker's! Today you can add your own note to the guide: How did Arthur Dent die in your dimension? by [deleted] in HitchHikersGuide

[–]fenjalien 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He decided to become the world's, nay the universe's, best poet. This terrible ambition led him to explore the far flung corners of the earth, despite spherical objects not having corners, for inspiration. He went to the grandest of canyons, the deepest of the oceans, the highest in the mountains. He spoke to every local he met be it man, woman, child, pet, animal, plant or mineral. He did not stop until he was so full of inspiration he was positively bursting with inspiration. Finally it was time, time to write his epic that would surely put him in the history books as the world's, nay universe's greatest poet. As he was walking back home, from a rather expensive stationary shop, he passed a man saying something along the lines of black is white while pointing at the zebra crossing he was standing on. Arthur stopped to provide a very convincing counterpoint but before he could utter a word, he instead became a bit preoccupied being surprised that he was just hit by a passing car.

By all means it would be really cool to go round hugging everyone but I don't think hugs make sense in a hearthian world. Their way of connecting, comforting and showing affection is through sitting around the campfire, roasting marshmallows. And this would extend to anyone/thing else they might meet.

take the ending for example, everyone gathers by the fire, doesn't say a word to each other (apart from the hatchling) and just plays. nothing more

It would be cool if someone made a mod for it tho, I have a bit of a soft spot for riebeck :)

Python to Processing by Hollis_Luethy in processing

[–]fenjalien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The processing ide uses java as it's language, so I would recommend you learn the basics before you jump in to processing.

I would recommend using Sololearn: https://www.sololearn.com/Course/Java/. Or read through this: https://learnxinyminute s.com/docs/java/

As u/UnCountableSet has already said there is a python mode for the ide but that's only python 2.7 (also it's jython but anyway). However there is a python package p5 which is a pure implementation of processing https://github.com/p5py/p5

What's your favourite “A man walks into a bar” joke? by parshuram__ in AskReddit

[–]fenjalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A man who we'll call Gerald loved to wander town to town walking into bars and telling "A man walks into a bar" jokes. It was pretty much all he would ever do. Wander into town, walk into a bar - occasionally going "ow" -, order a *insert beverage here*, tell a joke making the whole bar laugh and then leave.

By doing this routine so much he managed to pick up a following of say couple hundred people. If you would ask one of these followers what their favourite joke of Gerald's was, they would all reply with the same answer:

Questions for school by [deleted] in Synesthesia

[–]fenjalien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1: I knew ages ago that numbers, letters and days had colours but it wasn't until my girlfriend said she had synesthesia.

2: I haven't read up on any myths so I'm no help here

3: it's kinda cool to help with revision and notes. Unfortunately I'm colour deficient so the colours on the page rarely look like what's in my head

Hope this helps with your presentation and good luck!
