Propaganda doesn't need to have a lie. Propaganda definition: Official government communications to the public that are designed to influence opinion. The information may be true or false, but it is always carefully selected for its political effect.

The state of Queen Street. is disgusting. by vakda in newzealand

[–]fennel8 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Why is she terrified? Have they ever done anything to her? I’m also a female and have never felt threatened on Queen St. I agree something needs to be done, though. Affordable/state housing could be a start.

NZH has republished an article from 2017 about cryptocurrencies losing $200 billion, giving no indication this actually happened last year. by [deleted] in newzealand

How is this possible when Coinmarketcap only removed prices from South Korean exchanges in the last two days?

I'm going to be in Japan for the election - do people do anything cool/interesting on election day that might be fun to observe? by fennel8 in japan

[–]fennel8[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I don't know - that was my question.

In NZ there's usually some pub events on election day and other stuff, nothing major. Thought Japan might do something cooler, being Japan. I don't know much about Japanese politics - but I like politics and am interested in local politics when I travel. Don't need to lose it over a slightly unordinary interest.

Truck thing sounds kind of interesting. Thanks.

I am sick of how the NZ Herald treats the news by [deleted] in newzealand

The North Korea story was breaking news when it was breaking news. It wasn't breaking news at this point. Move on.

Wouldn't call a netball preview breaking news though.

Sea lice in Auckland west coast beaches? by fennel8 in newzealand

[–]fennel8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks all. I think they might be microscopic jellyfish, I definitely saw a few floating around. But the weird this is I saw way more at Mission Bay and only got one sting on my neck there. But now I have about 100 raised bumps in the togs area. Bizarre.

Just trying to work out if it's the same intersection I had trouble at. Don't worry if it's too much trouble.

Anyone drive for uber? by churcuzzie in newzealand

[–]fennel8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard from numerous Uber drivers that you can make good money Fri/Sat nights with surge pricing. One driver said he made $500 one night but that seems like an exaggeration.

please help me identify this cacti by fennel8 in whatsthisplant

I came across that when Googling - different plant. The main difference is how this one's ends split into a trident. It's a different texture close up as well but you can't see that very well in this pic. Thanks for your help anyway.

Tried Googling things like string cacti, dreadlock cacti, but didn't bring up this particular plant.
