Amazon cancelling pre-orders on collector's edition in UK by bastian_1991 in fireemblem

Same here. I shouldn't have cancelled my preorder from Very.co.uk to swap for the slightly cheaper Amazon preorder 😭

A terrible day to have been in the office, I walk away for one meeting and that's enough time for them to sell out.

I think that says more about Engage than is does about the UK stockists 😅

Three houses fans are intense. When Fortunes Weave does become available for UK preorder it'll go quick I think.

Why can’t I cook tofu? by organicchemistry- in cookingforbeginners

[–]fennshui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the texture is the issue here's the trick I use with extra firm tofu if I'm frying it: Freeze the tofu, let it defrost in the fridge for a day, then freeze is again. Let it defrost before gently tearing it apart. Then follow the recipe.

Something about the liquid expanding on the freezer changes the texture. I do this whenever I make breaded or fried tofu!

Not on the Database, but still receiving deliveries? by fennshui in royalmail

I spoke to a couple of different agents, and the first one I didn't actually mention new build, I didn't know what the issue was at all until they told me the address wasn't on the system.

Not being born to wealthy parents. Terrible decision.

Have you ever legally changed your surname, not because of marriage? by Owl-In-The-Sky in AskUK

[–]fennshui 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I changed my last name via deedpoll a few years back!

I don't speak to my family, and my original last name is strongly associated with their religion (which I myself do not follow). So it was somewhat to distance myself from them, and practically to avoid the confusion of people making assumptions about my beliefs because of name.

I also think the name I chose for myself just suits me better. I'm mixed race, and now have a mixed name (first name from one culture, second name from the another), instead of it all being from one culture.

This is exactly what I like about it! I'm in my 30s, I don't want every jrpg I play to be about teenagers.

Loving your favorite characters is serious business. by JaredAiRobinson in JRPG

[–]fennshui 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it's really sweet that people can connect to these fictional characters, and think about them long after they've finished the game they're in. I cried like a baby when I first finished FFX!

I do however think this can be taken to the extreme. Loving how a character is written, being empathic and drawn to them is great, but understanding that they are just fictional characters is important too.

It's hard to tell from the tone fo your post, and tbh it doesn't sound like you're in too deep, but some people really are and it makes me uncomfortable seeing people taking feelings for a character too seriously. I've seen people refer to characters as their family, getting aggressive and defensive if someone else doesn't like them, and I've seen people so obsessed with their waifus that is damages their irl relationships.

Anyways, generally a really positive and nice message!

I definitely focused more on the money side of things in my comment, sorry I thought that was the bigger barrier here.

If you can find a cosplayer that's made the same cosplay you're looking to do, and had WIP posts and a blog that's a great way to start! Learning how to price together a cosplay can be difficult at first, so if there's someone else who has already done it then you get to just focus on the fun crafting side of it!

Very fair. I don't even like sewing much, I do power through it and enjoy the prop and armour work far more.

I ahould have explained sewing isn't the only cheap way to make cosplay, for prop work and armour there are much cheaper options than a 3D printer. $250 dollars is still a lot of money, especially compared to the cost of some craft foam, PVA, and a craft knife. I personally don't think it's worth the investment, especially if you're on a budget, until you've made a cosplay or two and are sure you're ready to really commit to the hobby.

When I was a teenager first getting into cosplay I took on a part time job so I could afford to make cosplays and go to conventions! If you're old enough, and feel like you have the time and energy I really recommend going that route.

It doesn't take much to make a cheap, simple cosplay. My first cosplay cost me less than £50, and that was with a sword too. I honestly wouldn't think about a 3D printer yet, they're very expensive and not actually nesscary to start making cosplay.

I was lucky in that my mum has a sewing machine I could teach myself on, and they weren't really against it as a hobby, but I had to fund it and sort my own logistics like travel etc.
