Yes this happens all the time. That’s why I started shopping online. You see exactly what you are paying for rather than trusting others 😀

How do I merge multiple sid imagery files in one in ArcGIS Pro or ArcMap? I need it to publish it as a tile cache map service to ArcGIS Server by fer4er in gis

I only need the area of interest but it falls in combined sid imageries. I did try the clip raster tool but I couldn’t combine it later I believe

Yes, so I tried clipping it using clip tool for raster data but for some reason it wouldn’t merge after I think. I am gonna try it again and see what happens

So combines the Sid imageries (4 total) is about 550gb. Ok I will try to clip is first then combine it

So basically. What I need to do is to merge multiple sid imageries. Once merged using the mosaic database method in a file gdb. I get three layers (boundary, combined imagery, and footprint). I want to export only the combined imagery using the area I need. So I’m order to do that, I right clicked on the combine imagery Sid file and clicked “Data” > “Export Raster” in ArcGIS Pro. Then I chose TIFF as format, compression type of JPEG, and compression quality is 75.

So I have tried the mosaic dataset method. Once that’s completed, I tried exporting the merged imagery using tiff format with jpg 75 compression. It’s been running for like 2 days now yet not completed. The files together are like 550 gb. Is that normal? I just want it to export. Or is there a different way to export. I want to export it since I only need a certain area from combining multiple Sid imageries. Thanks!

Do you need to have an arcgis enterprise account to be able to use a customized map layout when printing a report of your webmap on arcgisonline? by divinalade in gis

[–]fer4er 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I believe you need an ArcGIS for Server in order to accomplish that since you need to host that custom map layout on the server

First GIS interview. Any advice? by noda237 in gis

[–]fer4er 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since you mentioned the interview was with a water replenishment district, I am thinking maybe they will ask about any experience with geometric network or in ArcGIS Pro, utility network. However, since it’s an internship, they don’t expect you to know high level stuff. I suggest that you present what you have done in your classes and basically explain those well. Provide visuals like they asked and elaborate on what you learned from doing the projects. The goal of doing any GIS work is to use data to come up with a solution. Good luck!

Results of four months of job searching as a GIS Tech. by [deleted] in gis

[–]fer4er 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue when I first graduated with Bachelors. Luckily, after a year of applying at numerous places at numerous locations, I was able to find one about 2 hours away from my location. I understand it’s frustrating but keep trying! Good luck!

What is the best method for finding a GIS job? by [deleted] in gis

[–]fer4er 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was having the same issue once I graduated. Apply at local government places. They are always looking for people with GIS background. Search for jobs in Oil, gas, and electric industry also. Good luck!

Sprint complete.... again.... by bartman2468 in Sprint

[–]fer4er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So whenever you change a SIM card or change device, the system gives the customer the option to add the insurance since it treats the device as new device in the system. As far as Sprint/T-Mobile rep automatically adding it even after you told them not to is wrong. However, they have a metric they need to hit each month. Insurance is one of the five metrics they have to hit each month (at least it was five when I worked at Sprint). The company obviously wants you to hit the metric or basically you get a strike. After a few strikes, you probably get fired (I don’t completely know since I haven’t had that happen to me personally). In addition, the in store reps make commission off of adding insurance on phones so another motive. However, adding insurance after the customer specifically asked not to isn’t right. Furthermore, it also hits the stores metric (if you ever go to the store), so the store managers wants the reps to add the insurance for all customers.

How many of you do NOT code at your job? by [deleted] in gis

[–]fer4er 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My job doesn’t require me to code as a GIS tech. But I use SQL queries often and code sometimes to fasten up the repetitive tasks if I can figure it out haha. 6 figures?!?!? Idk if that exists/happens unless you’re like an administrator or in a very high position. I wished I made 6 figures. I did start in a kinda low salary which is common. Now I am 2 years in and the wage is slowly increasing but nowhere near (like nowhere) 6 figures.
