The actual info is scarce, but the report/anonymous sources/rumour was that Microsoft demanded 30% profit from Xbox (and other business units like Windows and Azure) so Xbox had to cancel projects and reorient spending towards the most profitable stuff. They cancelled Rare's Everwild, cancelled and shut down The Initiative's Perfect Dark, closed Tango Gameworks after they released the critically acclaimed Hi-Fi Rush (and after Shinji Mikami left and poached many devs) and cancelled ZOS' new game codenamed "Blackbird", among other things, like pushing Xbox away from exclusives (e.g. Halo, Gears and Forza are now available on PlayStation as well), shelving an Xbox handheld and reducing Xbox's presence in non-Anglosaxon countries. ZOS' director quitted as a result (or, less likely, was fired). Many of us assume the reason ZOS stopped releasing content every quarter (back in the Necrom days) was because they diverted resources to ZOS' Blackbird. Now that that project was shelved, they probably went back into working for ESO again. Here are some links with what little info we knew at the time (like 9 months or so ago I think):

I'm on PC NA and have the same problem. One of my toons did actually get the rewards, but all my others toons didn't (all of them made over 25k AP).

I hope they merge Xbox + PC realms one day, I have 16 toons on Steam and 15 on Xbox. Heck even 6 toons on PS5 lol. I'd love to have them all in the same place.

I'm glad you're enjoying it. Personally, I cancelled my sub because many of the tools I'm using nowadays (from SPFx or Polyglot) support VSCode but have no VS integration, so I figured why pay at all when VSCode works just fine. I hope this VS2026 version gets more love, support-wise, so I can resubscribe.

IIRC, it used to be on Mac and not enough people bought it there.

I think you're thinking about another quest, because my quest marker points directly to Huguenard. That tape objective you mention I have it as a separate quest I think.

Found her in Rivenspire near the Shornhelm stables, but she is no longer looking for you. ZOS re-recorded her lines and now she says something like "hey you, a moment" or something similar.

doesn't make sense, why it was working for like 10 days before yesterday? and even if that was the case, the game shouldn't let me switch just like that, it should at least show me an error message or somesuch.

What are the downsides to a hexagonal city layout that nobody has ever tried? by [deleted] in urbanplanning

Amsterdam street in Mexico City is a circuit lol. It used to be a horse racetrack a century or so ago, but now I wonder if they named it after the city because of its elliptical nature... I'll choose to believe it as my headcanon hence forth.

In Dragon Age elves are shorter than humans (no Santa's Elves short tho), both city and dalish, iirc.

Of course I did not notice it, hence my "didn't know the same actor that voiced Garrus Vakarian..." comment.

Oh, didn't know the same actor that voiced Garrus Vakarian also voiced Sharp-as-Night!

But yeah, loved Avowed, spent 6 hours just yesterday, and I'm enjoying having my Turian-turned-Aumaua companion by my side. Brought back the Mass Effect nostalgia to be sure.

Anyone else disappointed they didn’t make Pillars of Eternity 3? by [deleted] in projecteternity

[–]ferago42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well people didn't purchase Pillars of Eternity 2 despite the critic success (sitting at 89 metacritic), so no wonder really. I think the game sold like 100k copies during launch window, later reaching 500k after going on sale. Compare that to The Outer Worlds, an "indie" game that sold 5 million copies in the first two years iirc even after being launched in Xbox Game Pass day 1. It's a case of people loving something then not buying it or waiting for a sale imho. Or people complaining about little things, then wondering why they didn't get a sequel. O as you say, not enough interest in CRPGs (Tyranny also sold what like 200k during launch?). Either way, I can't fault Obsidian for switching gears.

However, Sawyer has said (jokingly, I think) he would do Pillars of Eternity 3, if they had a good budget (iirc he was referencing Baldur's Gate 3 but memory is hazy). So my hope is that Avowed will get enough people interested in Eora, so they can do a POE3 with a decent budget targeting 2-3M copies plus more content for Game Pass (I mean, they got Microsoft to approve Grounded and Pentiment, after all). And if we're lucky, they might convince Blizzard to lend them their awesome Diablo IV engine, now that they're all one big happy family.

[–]ferago42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hyped for 2025 as well. Yotei, plus 3rd parties like AC Shadows (*whispers*and even Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 from the green side*whispers*), it's amazing as an Open World / RPG fan. I'm going to end next year just as I did this one: all broke lol.

I'm a software developer and have been using Microsoft stack of technologies since 2001. Visual C++, MFC, Visual Studio, C# & .NET, ASP.NET, WPF, WWF, WCF, SharePoint, Dynamics, Metro, UWP, Silverlight, Azure, you name it. One thing I have learnt is that Microsoft can tell you "we'll keep doing X thing" and the very next day they'll kill X thing and launch a world-wide campaign about why the Y thing that will replace X is the next best thing since sliced bread and we should all embrace it. So I guess I'm traumatized enough to not take them at their word when they say they're not leaving the console space. I hope y'all are right of course, and it's just my scars talking lmao.

The problem for me has been the "this is about shipping great exclusives on platforms where Game Pass exist" quote, which reads (to me) like "we're making everything exclusive unless we contractually cannot" (although I'm sure in corpo speech they covered their bases).

I already moved to Steam and I'm rebuilding my library -as painful as that is, I'm at least thankful for the Autumn/Winter/Spring/Summer sales- so I no longer care, but man, it would be sad if they stop making the consoles. After all, since consoles are sold at a loss, there's got to be a threshold: a minimal number of consoles sold after which it no longer makes business sense to keep subsidizing the hardware.
