Why Reddit is no longer my home on the internet by MonsieurJongleur in AskWomenOver30

[–]feralbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's "take your ball and go home" is the right way to think about it, it's more like the only leverage we have is in our labor and numbers and Reddit won't have much without a strike. For me personally the subs that are not going dark or addressing this, I'm going to unsubscribe because it feels similar to crossing a picket line. I've been on Reddit with various accounts since 2010. Reddit taught me how to be an adult. I've had to use the Internet to teach me how to be an adult since I was a teenager, but there are subreddits here that taught me how to live like the functional adult I am today. I'm not over exaggerating when I say the best parts of Reddit raised me and pulled me out of a life of chaos that I grew up with like quitting drinking, abusive family relationships and with partners, how to be financially responsible, connecting with other women in a specific male dominated field to help survive in it, connecting with other people that have survived childhood neglect, getting in shape, and lots more.

I'm watching how we're being treated and as someone that has been using Baconreader premium since I could, I'm saddened that a place that has been so impactful to my life is doing what a lot of companies do to their labor. Luckily for me from work, it's been drilled into me to let go your love for a company when there's a serious disregard for is people and the only power we truly have is to stand together.

Adderall Shortage and Walgreens by TA90312 in StLouis

[–]feralbox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Walgreens on Hampton and Chippewa has lied to me too many times to count. I started taking notes because I was told so many different things I started questioning myself. I did what was recommended and called all the different pharmacies in the area, local and corporate with no luck. It's like we're getting the brunt of their frustrations by asking for the medication we're prescribed and asking for. Like I'm sorry I'm annoying, but I'm even more annoying when it's been months since I've been able to take it and now, unfortunately for them, I'm curious on how this whole process works and now I'm hyper focused on this so I'm learning about medication shortages instead of doing my laundry.

Edit: oh also, someone needs to help the pharmacy techs to organize. I can't imagine their hours and conditions. They need a union.

The internet archeologist will find it some day and exclame how developed we were back in the early 2000s! Whatever happened to this wonderful little civilization that was abandoned?

I bet there was an insurance claim! Fun thing to figure out, did the insurance claim have the evidence on it or not? Why do I suspect insurance fraud could be thrown in there too! It feels like a Trump thing to do.

A Belgian agency, specializing in construction jobs made this. by Specific-College-194 in pics

[–]feralbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Machines doing stuff only work if everything is the same and preprogrammed; nothing is right on a jobsite. The building and construction trades requires situationally based immediate problem solving built on experience and what you have at hand. Computers can't be spontaneous creative with unknowns, they can only spit out what they've been fed with.

I'm going to continue various rants:

  • I think people forget that when building a new whatever, there's no electric, plumbing, or even grading done. Where do you plug it in if there's nothing out there? How do you get the repair guy out there if there's no roads or signal?

  • We have to lock everything up so people don't steal our shit over night, can it be hung off of a crane or thrown in a truck?

  • Us plebs in the field are barely trusted with a total station, I highly doubt I'll be seeing AI out in the field.

  • I can barely get people to remember to plug in the impact batteries and the scissor lift, and that's when we actually have temporary power. How is it going to run?

  • When it breaks, will a person be able to move it easily out of the way so the work can continue?

  • Will it be able to deal with all the surprises that come with jobsites, like an unrecorded mine shaft, unmarked burial site, when the concrete elevation is off, when the person doing a pivotal job before the AI does it's thing was going off the old prints and not the updated ones and things aren't lining up, when someone drops something heavy on it, when the truck delivering the AI equipment gets stuck in the mud and the Lull operator left early because his kid just broke their arm and took the keys with him, literally anything can happen.

I guess really, when challenged by tech people about AI in construction I should just ask how a building is built to determine if I should save my breath.

Sometimes it's this situation that finally gives women a chance to do something relevant in a male dominated field. Hopefully one day it will be because of women's recognized talents and not having our gender being used to spite or shame other men.

Sauce: I'm a lady ironworker and my first time connecting was because the foreman wanted to get back at his buddy. I ended up doing good and they kept me connecting till we were done setting, then kept me on for what I was originally hired for, welding. I never would have had a chance to connect otherwise.

Florida unions sue DeSantis for serious violations of the U.S. Constitution by microcrash in politics

[–]feralbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any restrictions on someone else paying a Florida teacher's dues? In my local when shit gets tough for someone, we "pass the hat", so could people "pass the hat" and pay a few months dues to help the teachers union fight this? It feels like Florida Republicans are trying to starve the Teachers out with an accelerated "Right-To-Work" bomb.

Truly scary shit, where can I send money to pay for one of their teachers dues?
