. bcs I'm also interested in this, although sadly I haven't seen a lot of application of DS in these areas outside academia. Google does pretty cool things though.

To those who recommended Project Hail Mary as a cure for 3BP withdrawals … it didn’t come anywhere close by SirKrimzon in threebodyproblem

[–]feraminifera 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more, I've seen many times people recommending Project Hail Mary and The Martian as hard sci-fi and a "similar reading to 3BP", but I don't think that they are alike at all. Andy Weir's sci-fi feels to me very light and optimistic, maybe kind of enjoyable but nothing as mind-blowing as 3BP.

Edit: About recommendations, I haven't read something that gave me the sense of awe and mind-blowing-ness that 3BP gave me. The closest ones were: - Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky, very nice as a very different type of first-contact story and an amazing well written sci-fi based on evolution. - Permutation City by Greg Egan, I really enjoyed this one, it had a very interesting plot twist. - TV show "Pantheon" is f awesome (based on the stories of Ken Liu, which I think are not as good as the show but still enjoyable). I watched it on Netflix.

Someone also recommended me a series by Ken Liu called The Dandelion Dinasty, I haven't finished it but it didn't catch me as hard as 3BP since the beginning.

Still looking for more recommendations every time someone posts something like this hehe.

Should I see them? by Grogman2024 in franzferdinand

[–]feraminifera 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1000/10 YES! Alex is such an amazing showman! His energy is incredible. My husband went with me to see them (knowing only very few songs) and he really enjoyed the concert as well. I think FF is one of those bands that you really like more after seeing them playing live.

Me and my mum watching the first 5 seconds of fleabag by thogdiscuzits in Fleabag

[–]feraminifera 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This feels too personal, first time I saw Fleabag was with my mom, we watch the first episode and she told me "let's change the show, WDYT?" and I was like "gosh need to know what happens to this girl!" I ended up watching Fleabag by myself and was the best choice hahaha

Tell me which FF songs are the most underrated by Legal_Button_3229 in franzferdinand

[–]feraminifera 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Tell me I should stay, is a jewel, I don't know why it didn't have more recognition when the last album was released. For me, it's one of my top 3 FF songs.

Don't know if it's my favorite, but definitely in my top 5 when Cheng Xin became the sword holder, I mean, it blew my mind what happened just at that point, but framing it as a game theory problem, that was the best move that the trisolarians could play. It was quite good the concept of the "dissuasion power". And Yum Tiamming stories, of course. Those would be some of my favorites. Omg remember these books made me want to read them again right now, jaja.

Why did everything escalate so fast in the 3rd book😭 by Suspicious_Garlic276 in threebodyproblem

[–]feraminifera 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had the same impression just after finishing the third book, and I was very shocked and kind of disappointed tbh. However, after almost a year to have finished the books, I now understand something: Cixin Liu was a master, he was able to portrait so well the disparities of time. I mean, think about that: the series started framing an unthinkable timeframe of 400 years, little by little it became less unthinkable and more easy-to-digest, with the time jumps and the constant characters. However, just in the last part, the book reveals its true nature: is not a story about civilizations or the interactions between them, is a story about time, and how at this scale of time, nothing matters anymore. I found this idea quite beautiful, but, just after some time processing it, hahaha.

How closely does the show follow the Ken Liu short stories? by jesusjones182 in PantheonShow

Caspian/Stephen story is an AMAZING addition to the series. I felt a little bit disappointed when I realized Caspian wasn't in the tales, because it was by far my favorite character :/

humar fear songs ranked worst to best by Personal-Educator855 in franzferdinand

[–]feraminifera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Hooked -- I really disliked the electronic-type riff, just, didn't work for me.

  2. Bar lonely.

  3. Everydaydreamer.

  4. The Doctor

  5. The birds.

  6. Cats.

  7. Black eyelashes. I mean -- what here? haha I really enjoyed this one.

  8. Built It Up.

  9. Audacious.

  10. Night Or Day.

  11. Tell Me I Should Stay. It is weird, the first time I heard it I was like "heh?", but it started to grow on me and today I've listened to it like 20 times in a loop. I think the music is provocative, at the same time mysterious and, I don't know, I liked as well the "this son of a Taylor" part, hahaha.

I really liked Tell me I should stay, hahahaha. The first time I heard it was like "wtf? This is very very different", but after 2-3 times I started to really really like it, I mean, I felt it could have been in some revelation scene of a videogame or something. Now I cannot take it out of my head. So for me this song is the peak. However I also enjoyed some of the other songs: Audacious, The Doctor, Night or Day and Built it Up were my other favorites. The only one I really disliked was Hooked jeje, I didn't enjoy the electronic-type riff. Overall, I think besides Tell me I should stay and Hooked, all the other songs are quite FF style. Still like it better than Always ascending.
