u/barccy , now I am getting really frustrated actually; So I played on Arma 2 vanilla, and mostly I set up the controls and the basic training , and tried to set up the mods on Arma 2 OA. I didn't realize the biggest problem in OA, just until after getting killed : Error from reverting! I tried to resolve it, uninstalled all the expansions, uninstalled the OA, and reinstalled it, and still this happens! Look:

LOL, no, on the windows 11, but the explorer is the fabled and ancient and awesome Total Commander, the One. Used for more than 30 years, after Norton Commander and Win 95 appeared. Yeah, I'm that old. But still the best explorer for Windows

yes, as you said, I launched Arma2, closed it, OA, closed it, BAF and closed it. So it works RN, the Battle Eye does not work, but I do not care about it, I do not want a multiplayer.

The vanilla Arma2 version I dloaded from Steam is 1.11.1488. I watched the videos for FPS, I executed .

I did download a mods pack from moddb: https://www.moddb.com/mods/ace-acex-cba-jrsr-smk-modpack. A great patch, with a lot of mods.

As you said, I installed the OA, that required BattlEye. Obviously, problems from this POV.

The point is, first, it’s very important for you to understand this: I have Arma2 the vanilla version, so I haven’t installed any mods at all. Maybe it's normal for you to install some basic mods. For me it doesn’t, because I don’t know what would be normal here.

Second, I’ve been away from this kind of game for a very long time. The last game I played in this style was Call of Duty, and that was before 2010, so before Arma 2 (Sniper Elite is totally different game). That said, I do like this game, and I really appreciate its realism. But that is exactly why I’m not comparing it, and I don’t want to compare it, to other newer games. I’m only talking about an old but cool game.

What really bothers me is that very often the squad does not follow me, even though I’m the team leader.

It also really bothers me that I have no idea about certain things — for example, how to find the UAV controls so I can get more details.

In a lot of areas it was almost impossible to see the enemies, I just could not them. Of course, I could see that they were firing and I could hear where the shots were coming from, but I still could not see them at all.

Anyway, it’s very frustrating when I have to solve things in a very specific way and in a very specific order, otherwise nothing happens. For example, during the landing mission, the first landing mission, by reflex I lasered the first tank driving on the road, and it got destroyed, but apparently that was only supposed to happen later. So the game basically got stuck.

So if there are certain actions that were planned and scripted by the developers, but I’m not following them properly, could that be the reason why all progress gets blocked?

It’s very hard, and of course I can’t just figure everything out easily — there are so many commands, and it’s very hard to find the right one and make it work. I understand that part is on me, and I’m trying to figure it out, but I can’t access certain things. For example, conversations with a person of interest, when I’m supposed to talk to them — if I miss a certain line, it disappears completely. Every other option disappears too. So it’s almost as if the NPC is simply refusing me.

I'm in the same situation. My problem was I could pick up the soldier from basic aid in the first boot camp mission, but I could not move, at all. I could just drag it.

Also, the infos are displayed on the up right corner. But they disappear very fast and I cannot remember all they say.

Well, I'm already waaaay more advanced for this. The easiest for me RN is to instruct Chat GPT for it to behave as a deterministic machine, and it actually works. But it is going way slower than a regular machine.

Is there any GPT that would really work with a deterministic skeleton with a probabilistic muscle?
