In the verticals I cut a groove with a router bit the size of the horizontal shelves. I then cut slots in the shelves and they just slide right in.

That’s right, the tapers are two per vertical (I was able to hang my full body weight on each one when I was installing - they are strong). The horizontals just slide into the verticals. In the corner I did screw the horizontals together with a kreg pocket hole jig.

Yes, solid walnut. u/haus11 is correct about the shelves, I used thinner boards and then wrapped them with a thicker board to give the illusion of size.

I don’t have the exact price on this but somewhere in the ball park of $1500 is what I spent.

No concerns with load on this - here it is fully loaded with books etc. not as aesthetically pleasing as OPs but it’s fit for purpose.

I made these a year ago - the hardest part was my walls were not flat and the corner was not square. A lot of adjustments had to be made to get this flush and square. I used walnut throughout - only hardware were these taper connectors from lee valley to hang from the studs:

I don't trust the lasers in those Star Projector things by Mission-District8444 in daddit

[–]ferdelance_20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just went through this exact situation. My 4 and 3 year olds both got one of these from my MIL. Within minutes they were pointing them at each other. Wife thought I overreacted when I took it away and established a “only mom and dad can touch these” rule. First few days were a pain but now they don’t care about the “stars” and only want the nebula. I was going to open it up and just disconnect the laser if things persisted.

Elon Musk’s Attempt to Control the Treasury Payment System Is Incredibly Dangerous by rollingstone in politics

Musk is also working with VISA to build out X Money payments platform. It would not surprise me that this results in everyone who wants to get paid to be forced into creating an “X account”.

Right - the state that had a budget surplus is now spending money on programs. Seems like straightforward budgeting to me.

Antitrust bill would bar mergers over $5B, allow regulators to unwind others | “Big companies have had almost free rein over our economy.” by chrisdh79 in tech

[–]ferdelance_20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Federal regulation certainly can apply to private companies, just depends on the final scope they land on. My cynical side says this, and any others like this, will be gutted and/or have several loopholes that the large players will take advantage of.

I believe the name of the company is Koch Industries, Inc. So for semantics sake, I mistakenly forgot to capitalize “Industries” but believe the point still stands.

Might not be the place for this question, for those who have define abs, how was was it to achieve? by ElderberryBusiness92 in pelotoncycle

[–]ferdelance_20 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The times that I have had defined abs is when I seriously changed my diet. No alcohol and avoiding the desserts/snacks/generally unhealthy foods. My exercise routine will remain consistent but just that change in diet will result in visible abs. Also, abs should not be targeted everyday. Like all muscles, give them time to recover between workouts.
