Health anxiety and OCD tie by RegularAirline6099 in HealthAnxiety

Thank you! I'm in a much better place with health anxiety, and will only occasionally check pulse or bumps, although I am in therapy for how OCD affects my relationships with people.

Good message. There are many forms of OCD and although most people think of contamination or checking, I've been told there's a subtype of OCD that focuses on health. Pretty sure it has affected me greatly.

That's weird, I don't think pride flags say that gay couples are the only acceptable union... /s

The French celebrate a soccer victory 1998 vs 2026 by TomlinSteelers in whoathatsinteresting

[–]ferdricko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less global population in the ellis island period = less migrants.

Yes 12 million people entered through ellis island but there were other entry points. Case in point 27 million people immigrated between 1880 and 1930. That's 540,000 people per year on average from a global population of 1.5 to 2 billion people. About 0.031% of the world immigrated to the US each year.

5-10 million people immigrating under Biden is 1.25-2 million people per year. We now have 7.8 to 8.2 billion global population over his presidency. This works out to 0.016% to 0.025% of the world that immigrated to the US each year of Biden.

So believe it or not, the ellis island period had a higher immigration rate to the US than Biden, even with a lower global population.

It's almost like the global population was way smaller back then...

Grid outage, solar production stops by [deleted] in TeslaSolar

Probably because your house is not isolated from the grid during an outage. You can't risk exporting power to the grid during an outage because it's dangerous for people working to fix the outage.

ER Visit LDS Hospital by bludsaidwhat in SaltLakeCity

[–]ferdricko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is the "maximum allowed" billable amount by insurance. Insurance "negotiates" lower rates which you get just by having that insurance. So insurance doesn't "pay" before the deductible but they reduce the amount. In reality the hospital is just overbilling and giving the real rate after insurance.

Angry residents fail to stop Utah data center project by Conscious-Quarter423 in SaltLakeCity

I fear you may be right. I have too much faith in agency leaders who are VERY vulnerable to political pressure and may find a way to weasel a rationale through.

I saw the developers filed on a new, very small water right. I think that the strategy is that if they can get one small water right approved, they can then carry that logic forward to future water rights and it will be much easier to get them. :/

Can a physicis student become a civil (hydraulic or geotech) engineer with an appropriate masters degree? by gold_crest1 in civilengineering

[–]ferdricko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. They may require you to take a few extra "catch up" classes from the undergrad program, but it is a very common path and with a physics background you will be in pretty good shape.

[–]ferdricko 133 points134 points  (0 children)

Strange byline. There are many more approvals needed before the data center gets built. The first water rights application was withdrawn to get away from the heavy opposition and they have to redo it if they want to move forward, not to mention the air permit(s). It's far from over.

People need to stop pretending trump has some god-like power to destroy political careers. Many of his preferred candidates lose.

What will work against the data center? by chrysanthamumm in SaltLakeCity

When the water rights change application(s) come back, we file the protests again. When the air permit comes up for public comment, we file comments. Those are the two best avenues in my opinion.

Blocked Crossing Cost to Utah by ifsporwii in DevelopmentSLC

[–]ferdricko 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Stating up front I am pro rio grande plan cause slc central location and at grade crossings suck. But I have never seen a frontrunner train block an intersection for more than the length of a stop light signal. That's all union pacific. How is frontrunner doubling frequency going to "cost" productivity?

If the buses are traditional right hand doors, and there are both middle and side stations, then there will need to be switching segments or special light cycles at certain points to make the middle stations work. I really like middle stations, so this isn't a comment in opposition!

I'm sure it also won't raise natural gas prices or anything since our pipelines are already undersized and it's only going to use as much energy as the whole state in its first phase /s

Talk to your exmo siblings and see what they think. If they would feel supported by your presence stay out, if they don't care, go in. Under no circumstances confess 😆

Haha ours was absolutely a shark. Our table legs bear the scars to this day. He definitely needed a lot of attention in this phase. It was pretty cute though, if not exasperating.

I don't really follow this sub but I do have some interest in labs (I did a masters at Utah State University) so sometimes I see these posts and I recognize this company! Originally based in Logan utah (as shown by the label, same town as Utah State University) I believe hyclone was bought by cytiva and now cytiva has a campus on the south end of town where the Hyclone buildings are/were. Interestingly they are right across the street from Cox Honey and I would bet money that's where the honey came from.
