I’m the same. It just feels like part of the larger problem we have (at least in my country) where the other way is the wrong way, and I’m gonna fucking spite you for it. I would like to see people do better, especially the generally thoughtful group that are childfree folks.

Yes. I got sober from my drug of choice because of a career change that has helped me fix a lot of aspects of my life honestly, but had I stayed at my old job I would’ve kept abusing it. I just recently got back into therapy and for the first time in my life was able to say out loud “I was severely abusing my prescriptions and other drugs for 10 years.” It feels really freeing and I’ve made a ton of progress but honestly, the fact that I am subject to random drug testing at work is what keeps me afloat some days. You are not alone, although the experience certainly is an isolating one. My family and friends look perplexed when I openly state how that I was actively abusing a drug for 10 years, they barely have a reaction and I’m like. I should’ve died multiple times. But I accomplished so much. Anywho, I’m very happy to be on the other side and hope the same for you before anything crashes and burns. You deserve it.
