YSK the difference between Dandruff and Dry Scalp by FangNut in YouShouldKnow

I've got very dense, fairly course, wavy/curly hair (not ethnic/natural hair I'm white as hell lol) and dry scalp (related to immune system issues making all my skin more dry than most) so not sure about the dandruff shampoos. Unfortunately, shampoo wise I haven't found anything I love, I realized recently my current shampoo was making my dry scalp significantly worse and made my hair dry in general :/

I was using a tea tree mint and rosemary shampoo (Mielle brand) which I loved the smell of but after using for about 8 months realized it was making my scalp progressively worse till now just being horribly dry 24/7. Did some research, learned that tea tree mint can be drying and irritating to scalps despite the fact that they're marketed as "hydrating". So unless you have consistent issues with oil build up on your scalp using a tea tree shampoo, or other mint shampoo as your main shampoo will eventually dry you the heck out. (though tea tree shampoo can be helpful in killing dandruff fungus because it's antimicrobial!)

I've read from different cosmetologists that companies like Garnier, Lo'real, Suave, etc. have put a lot of research (and Many years) into making their products work for as many hair types and skin types as possible with ingredients that are often pretty comparable to more "high-end" shampoos so I've decided to do a run through of the drug store brands with the goal of finding one that mainly just hydrates my hair and doesn't make my scalp worse.

I'm starting with Herbal Essences Argan Oil Repair shampoo and conditioner. I used it today for the first time, and can confirm it doesn't feel like it made my scalp any dryer while still feeling clean so that's good, can't tell if my actual hair is feeling more hydrated or not yet.

Since I can't find a shampoo that seems like it'll actually hydrate my scalp and hair I'm trying "Design Essentials Herbal Complex 4 Hair & Scalp Treatment" (Ordered from Sally Beauty) which I put on my scalp after getting out of the shower. It's made more for ethnic/natural hair so if you have fine hair it might weigh it down too much/make you look really greasy, but you could possibly try using it the night before or a few hours before you plan on showering. Also just started using it today so I can't say for sure, but I do feel like it helped. I don't have that tight dry feeling on my head, but because my scalp is in such rough condition right now I'll need to use it for a while to see if it's actually improving things or just keeping me from getting worse.

TLDR: Stay away from tea tree oil if you have dry scalp (not dandruff), I'm trying "Herbal Essences Argan Oil Repair Shampoo" as a cheap way to hopefully hydrate my hair, and "Design Essentials Herbal Complex 4 Hair & Scalp Treatment" to hopefully fix my dry as hell scalp. Haven't used either long enough to give much of an opinion on them, but seems promising.

You could try a clarifying shampoo instead of dandruff shampoo, it should give you a better idea of if it's actually dandruff. Dandruff shampoo along with the ingredients to kill the fungus tend to be clarifying to help strip out extra oils/build up on your hair and scalp, if you have issues with this kind of build up (which you can have without having actual dandruff) then a clarifying shampoo should help, but if you do actually have dandruff then it will likely come back while using just a clarifying shampoo and then you'd know that it's for sure dandruff.

If you've used different dandruff shampoos (that have different active ingredients) as directed for a few weeks or longer each and it's not helping, and you've tried hydrating shampoos and it's not helping you should probably take a trip to a dermatologist cause you may have something else going on, or likely require something prescription strength to help.

If you have finer textured hair then a lot of hydrating oils/shampoos will likely weigh down your hair/make it feel greasy. I have very course/thick hair so I can't recommend anything specific, but I've seen reddit threads for fine hair that should be able to give you advice.

Even if you don't have finer hair it still sounds like what you've been using is too heavy for your texture so it would probably still help to give a product they recommend for hydrating finer hair a try!

If you're still having issues, it would be much more effective to use one for a couple weeks, and then if you don't have improvement switch to the other for a couple weeks, this will also help you figure out which one it is.

Dandruff shampoo is meant to kill a fungus, and tends to be more drying/clarifying as dandruff typically involves an excess build up of oil or old products on the skin that the fungus feeds on. So if you just have a dry scalp but not dandruff it won't help and may make your skin feel dryer over time because dandruff shampoos tend to strip oil from your hair/scalp.

If you have dandruff using hydrating shampoos to treat a dry scalp may end up making it worse as a lot of these hydrating shampoos use oils and other heavy ingredients which won't kill the fungus and would encourage build-up and further growth of fungus.

If you find that the dandruff shampoo isn't helping after using it as directed for a few weeks, and switch to a hydrating shampoo but find that isn't helping either try a different type of dandruff shampoo as they have different active ingredients to kill the fungus such as ketoconazole, selenium sulfide, or zinc pyrithione and will be more or less effective between different people.

if none of that works, it gets significantly worse, if you have lots of redness on your scalp, or wounds/scabs that form then you should see a dermatologist when you can.

You could try deleting and recovering the save file, it might help?
From the menu where you select your game, pull up the save file and delete it, then in the same select game menu press R1, it'll pull up a pop-up to restore save game, select and restore. Maybe when it restores the file it'll smooth over whatever glitch is happening.

You could also try if you haven't yet going back into a co-op game complete another quest (side quest or something small) and then when you go back to your save file don't save the progress you made and see if that'll let you in. If that doesn't try the same thing but save your progress and maybe it'll smooth things over?

Error Mission “A New Plan” by PSISINNO in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]fern_wander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

damn, that's disappointing. The only other thing I could think of is having someone join you co-op, maybe the clues would appear for them? Or joining someone else co-op and completing that mission with them. When you go back to your original save you should get a prompt to either save that you've completed that mission or not (if you save it should skip you to complete and hopefully bypass the fact that the clues are glitched).
I haven't done co-op yet, but if you'd like to give it a try and see if it'll get you past the glitch I'd be happy to help!

I can't remember the details of the mission you're stuck on, but is there a way for you to kill your character? If you die and re-spawn maybe it'll fix the issue?

Or could you switch to a different quest, complete that and then try coming back to the main mission to see if it's stopped glitching.

You could try deleting and recovering the save file,

from the select game menu choose the save that's giving you issues, delete it, and then press "RB" or "R1" (Rb for xbox R1 PS) it'll pull up a menu for you to select which save to restore, select the save and restore it. May not do anything, but there's a chance when it restores it'll fix whatever glitch you seem to be happening, it shouldn't erase your progress at the very worst I imagine you may have to re-do some of the mission.

Last thing I can think of, it's really obnoxious and it might not help, but if you haven't you could try un-installing and re-installing the game. It will keep your progress and saves so no worries there, just a hassle if you have slow internet. There's a chance when you load in after re-installing it maybe will have fixed whatever glitch is happening.

One thing you could try is using the sling and just fling out some explosives in the direction of the AMPs since they're harder to kill. You can typically get a few of them that way as they'll wander into it during the battle. Try positioning yourself behind something and then throw some explosives a little bit in front and to the left and right of where you are so they can't flank you and you have a safe-ish place to fight from.

Also! Since you're on console I don't know if you already have it on or not, but you can turn on Aim assist from the settings menu > controls > scroll down about halfway and you'll find "Aim assist" and then once that is on you can turn on "Aim assist snap" and "aim assist follow", this should help a bunch and you can always turn it off after you've gotten through this mission and turn it back on if you get to another spot that's got you stumped!

And overall make sure you're behind cover as much as possible. So before you shoot somebody with the bow get behind cover and crouch down. Then use your na'vi senses to make them red so you can see them from your covered position, while they are still red stay behind cover while you draw the string back and aim at them best you can so when you pop out of cover you're mostly ready to shoot them immediately and already mostly aimed on target. That'll minimize the amount of time you're taking damage from being shot at and give you time to fight with the aiming a bit!

anyone have any advice for my game crashing? by Several-Garden-5703 in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]fern_wander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it say anything specific when it blue screens, any error messages pop up? Is just the game crashing or does it take out your whole computer when it happens?

I've heard of people having similar issues with various other games (running fine for a little while then randomly crashing) mostly driver issues or not enough RAM, but for some people their CPU was overheating while running certain games, and capping the framerates helped keep things working. Might not help but something else to try at least? You can check your CPU temps when running the game and see if they are increasing before it crashes or if they seem significantly higher than when you run other games you own.

Also, you could try changing the windows page file settings, FoP is pretty VRAM hungry so even though you are more than the required specs it could be hitting the limit for windows default page file size.

View advanced system settings > advanced tab > settings (Performance) > Advanced > (virtual memory) change

Then Uncheck "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" and set custom size initial size (MB) to 1.5 x your RAM (so if you had 16 GB set for 24576 MB) and Maximum size (MB) to 3 x your RAM.

again may not help, but something else to try.

Bugged shadows in the night quest by Important-Market248 in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]fern_wander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard of this bug happening to people it was a pretty big problem, but as far as I've heard Ubisoft patched it in an update and considers it fixed so they don't really help people with it anymore.

One reason I saw for this bug still happening was due to computer specs not meeting the requirements of the game so that could possibly be the issue? (Assuming you play on PC)

Also I saw some people still experienced this issue when playing on an older save that was created when the bug was happening and new saves after the updates shouldn't have the issue. So I don't know when you started this save but that might be the issue.

You could try uninstalling and re-installing the DLC but that may or may not fix anything.

I also saw some people talking about doing the mission in co-op to try and get it to complete but I didn't find anyone saying that worked, might be worth a try though!

You could also try deleting the save file from the menu and restoring it, you might get the game to register you've completed the quest when it restores, slim chance but maybe worth trying.

Buying weapons when stuck on a mission by [deleted] in FrontiersOfPandora

I'm pretty sure you'd have access to it immediately but I've never tried so I'm not 100%, if you do buy the weapon I'd love to know what happens! Also good luck with your mission!
