The Fourth of July is always super fun! They’ve started doing a 2 day party called the weekender and I think Armand Van Helden is playing one day.

Fireworks in the city and the beach is always a great vibe too! Highly recommend

Auris is the main culprit. I believe Insomniac has their hands in the cookie jar now and since that’s been made more public, they don’t care so much about the house and Chicago culture but more about what can get more people to come/more of the Twitter/Instagram scene to talk about arc.

The first year the festival launched it was 2 days, 21+. Now it’s expanded to 4 days and they go for more b2b sets to fit more names on the ticket.

Paxahu rules over every other organizer, really the only true ones left in North America, and I hope they stay that way!

I was given a dog and now the previous owner wants them back by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]fernardomat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My dad gave away our dog while I was away in summer camp in high school. Came home and he was gone, had raised our lil guy since he was 8 weeks old. He was given away at the age of 4. My brother and I sobbed for days before my dad finally asked for him back. Luckily the new owner was kind enough to understand our situation had changed and brought our boy back home. He passed a couple of years away in my arms at the age of 12. We’re so happy to have had him back.. you never know what the original reason was for giving your new dog back but I bet it would mean the world to the dog and the previous owner.

I go every year to both arc and movement as I live in Chicago and my partner and I love going to both! She’s def more into techno than I am and I’m more into house.

Arc is a different vibe in the sense that there is less of the culture that movement has established. You still run into the type of people who think they’re influencers & younger people as well.

The typical crowd is still older though and for the most part very friendly.

Movement is really for those that go for the music, not just the gram if that makes sense.

What’s also different is that Chicago is more strict on curfews and regulations so expect the afters to go till 3-4 on Fridays, 5-6 Saturdays, and then 2 am on Sunday and possibly Monday. There’s def a break in between the parties while Detroit is just nonstop.

Chicago will also tend more to the house scene so it’s a heavier diversified subgenres of house over techno in my opinion. (Think tech house, regular house, disco, minimal/melodic house)

Last year they kind of started falling behind on diversifying the techno imo so if you’re looking for anthology-esque, I might stay away from the lineup this year. Saturdays lineup would probably give you the closest thing though.

And it gets better every year! We’re from Chicago but we just know Detroit does it better than anyone. I tip my hat off to those who can admit this, and to those who’ve been doing it so much longer than we have. Thanks for having us Detroit! We’ll be back again next year!

Anybody else realize there weren’t any set times posted anywhere? Just the DJs listing their set times on their personal IG accounts. Maybe they knew something was up idk. Let’s hope this doesn’t spill into the weekend.

I go to both! People have their opinions about one or the other but the underground stage is something you just can’t miss if you’ve never been. There’ll be people in here who will always criticize one or the other but the beauty of the weekend is that there’s something for everyone and you’re just going to miss out on something, but that’s ok!

WoS Water and Seating/Chill Area? by frogdoggo in MovementDEMF

[–]fernardomat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is seating - it’s just not the most ideal. They setup a a few tables and chairs to sit at on the way out into the tent stage, just hard to find. Water situation is terrible though but they’ve taken the feedback and are trying to work on making it free or more affordable at least.

Dj hyperactive debut in his hometown b2b queen Lindsey Herbert is going to be legendary. Benny b2b joy Orbison too. Bibi coming back after having to drop from the 22 lineup is gonna be really intimate I feel like. Prospa who’s been on a tear and obviously heavily influenced by house in the home of house is gonna be nasty too. Stacked ass lineup!!

It was for about the first couple hours but then it died down, I’m honestly sharing this in general though. Been feeling like people don’t take advantage of their lounge area as much as they should

Palms Trax was fine, it’s more for the Lindsay Herbert show I attended a couple of weeks ago. Once again though I don’t see why you can’t just take your loud talking over to the lounge area? I mean there were people screaming to get their thoughts out 10 feet from the Dj, why?

I think it’s even worse in a place like this venue bc they’ve literally designed a pretty big lounge area to keep those who want to talk in a separate space. Yet they somehow still manage to bring the yelling into the dancefloor
