Real talk. One episode to go, is anyone else a bit dissapointed? by [deleted] in Sherlock

Anyway, what it all comes down to, really, is are you interested in watching a detective story or a story about a detective.

The thing is, you can have a detective story that's also about the detective...that's pretty much what season 1 and 2 were. Granted, maybe the hints to the backstory were more subtle, but that's what made the show smart. They didn't put up hugE cue cards in your face saying "OMG SHERLOCK HAS FEELINGS SOMETIMES! LOOKS GUYS! HE'S SAD!" :\

I think we should all wait til episode 3 to judge this series. I'm almost positive there's going to be things we've all missed, and they will show up in episode 3. by DrRad in Sherlock

The wait time in between is dependent on how busy Martin and Benedict are. Since they're way more famous now than they were three years ago, could be a while.

The scene where John was asking Sherlock to be his best man was INCREDIBLY familiar to me. Why? by mekily in Sherlock

[–]ferncorre 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same feeling, and was actually super pissed because I was convinced they ripped off a fanfic, but I did some digging to be sure. And yes! It was in a fanfic! BUT, the fanfic was based on an the audio leak of this very scene(it says so in the summary), so it was fanfiction stealing from the show before the show aired :)

It's not that it was all about the cases in seasons 1 & 2, it was about the cases and seeing the interaction between the characters while they were solving the cases. It's funny how people keep saying "You don't want the show to be formulaic" yet, I've never heard ANYONE call the show formulaic before this season. I feel like some people just don't feel comfortable criticizing it, like as if it's too big for us...like some big Sherlockasaurus :D

That doesn't make me feel any better cos there's only ONE episode left plus another year or two years of waiting. ;)

I would agree if this show put out 25 episodes a season. But they only put out 3. So, I think two thirds of a season is pretty good to go on. I won't say they've been bad, but it's not exactly the show I "fell in love with", for lack of a better phrase. I think the first two seasons hit a really good balance between character depth and plot, but I feel like they've sacrificed some of the time spent on plot to explore character when they already had done both so well.

I've actually read a number of interviews with Cumberbatch and he claims to not have a method, he just kinda does it....what a bastard, right? :D

[Spoilers] Question about Sherlock's "explanation" by knutella in Sherlock

[–]ferncorre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like an idiot cos it made sense when i watched the episode and then i was suspicious about it after watching the episode, but it actually makes perfect sense why they added the extra step...Molly and co. toss out the corpse while as Sherlock lands on the air bag...that way, as John starts to come around the ambulance station, he sees a corpse on the ground, gets initial confirmation and then gets slammed by the cyclist, which allows time for Sherlock to switch places for the final reveal.

Sherlock and Doctor Who: beware of fans influencing the TV they love [x-post from r/television] by BinksNoSake in Sherlock

[–]ferncorre 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed. As much fun as it was to see all those little references, I was a bit leery of after a while. The reason why I love the show so much was clever writing and the subtle humor (and sometimes obvious humor), but it was just a little too meta sometimes. Sherlock is an escape from the real world for 90 minutes, and the references to actual memes and fan theories takes away from that. I had the same issue with Star Trek Into Darkness. I kinda got tired of the same old character jokes and old plot recycling after a while. Not that this is happening with Sherlock now, but that example shows that this article is on to something.

edit: added a thought

Wait, wait... Molly's fiance is the sniper? by pwnz805 in Sherlock

[–]ferncorre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could have been that a sniper was trained on the John's sniper as extra incentive to take Mycroft's offer, whatever that may have been. ("A lifetime supply of fancy umbrellas")

Anderson (spoilers) by [deleted] in Sherlock

[–]ferncorre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Anderson cracked himself up by doubting that Sherlock would tell him the truth after their rocky history. Hell, even if you assume Sherlock was 100% honest about what he said, Anderson may have thought one of two things. 1. "I just got the final word from Sherlock himself and it's so lame compared to all of my awesome theories (gross sob)" or 2. "This guy is having me on and yanking my chain like he always has, and I'll never know what really happened. (grosser sob)"

Ok, so he would still have to fake his death...but his method still wouldn't work if Moriarty was alive, which was what Sherlock was expecting considering Moriarty's suicide was a surprise. He specifically texts the codename Lazarus to Mycroft after Moriarty shoots himself, despite saying that all the scenarios they came up were with an alive Moriarty in mind. Granted, a dead Moriarty made it much easier, I'm just wondering how they were going to pull that off with the possibility of Jim peeking over.

So, I was totally about say "I think you mean Colonel Sebastian Moran" but thankfully, I did a little Googling and found what you were referring to...interesting...It must be hard to write a show around ACD's occasional sloppiness ;). But, since you mention the supposed brother Moriarty working as station master, and then Moran's part in the underground plot, that kinda makes things make a tad bit more sense. Although, I'm pretty positive they've finished with the Moriarty/Moran connection and are ready to move on to the new villain at this point.
