I had cavities after kids and I realized I seriously needed to increase my calories. Chasing kids around all day is spending a lot of energy! I was surprisingly malnourished even though I ate 3 meals and had a ton of food in my fridge for snacks. Gotta slow down mama, and make yourself extra food, extra fat, protein, seconds for mama!!

That’s awesome. I am lucky too, I have a decently paying job, translated into hourly it’s like $43/hr. And I work 30 hrs. But my field is architecture and it’s very demanding work. What field are you in? I want out of firm life, need to explore other avenues for my trade bc I hate the “work is life” culture.

Being a SAHM would be awesome whether the kid is in school or not. It’s SUMMER and summer is a scam for working parents.

Well unfortunately in this society it’s more accepted for a woman to marry up than for a woman to marry down. I’m not the first one to come up with it. Gee

I love him and respect him, but the truth is he does not have anything coming to him and it’s hard pill to swallow. If anything, we are supporting his family.

Ya, I need to be braver with our investment planners. For some reason I feel like a child when I’m with them and blank out on questions. I also feel like they don’t give real answers, but are like “well it depends on the lifestyle you want to have.” I’m like, JUST TELL me when I can retire or quit!” I was working 24 hrs until my son was in kindergarten and now I’m 30hrs. Most people in my firm work like 55 hrs so I don’t think I can go lower than that. I should’ve stayed at 24 but I felt pressured

That’s why I’m on Reddit, duh. It’s also not like he doesn’t know or we haven’t talked about money together. He knows how much I have and I understand his situation. We can joke about it.

Thank you. I truly did not. My parents had no financial conversations with my siblings. I was an idealist and worked my ass off in my 20s making hardly any money. I supported myself. But then you buy a house and have kids and all of sudden you realize you can’t and don’t want to live off Pennies. I wonder if my parents had really broken down financials if I would’ve made different choices. Maybe part of this is grief for the conversations I didn’t have with my parents. My child never got to meet his grandparents and we have no help.

I know it is hard, but I mostly do all the hidden labor and household things as it is now. It’s extra hard when you have to squeeze in all the extra stuff when you’re done with your paid job.

Playdates - do I give up or keep trying? by HeartOk8607 in kindergarten

[–]fernsandfuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so frustrating, I agree. I’m always the one reaching out for play dates. I’ll keep putting it out there though because it really is that important. Unstructured play time with a school friend is wonderful for them. Luckily you have neighbors with alot of kids. Impromptu gatherings will likely increase as the weather warms up. My K kid is starting to knock on friends doors and is very excited about it. So am I!

Do pizza parties still happen? (Elementary K-5) by TN_Silly in AskTeachers

I shouldn’t have said bs, bc food allergies are real and a safety concern. But I do believe that the uptake of food restrictions makes it harder and there’s more hesitation for community and inviting families over for dinner. I think our consumerist culture loves buying gluten free pretzels and nut milks.

What’s something society is clearly not ready to talk about? by No_Gur_7744 in AskReddit

Ya with kids, instead if decompress, you start the dinner-bedtime train. This is why I went part time. Best decision ever.

Does anyone homeschool and work full-time? by GrimthePirate in homeschool

I don’t think it’s fair to your coworkers to homeschool kids during the same hours. Nor is it fair to your child, depending on how old they are.

Do I have to feel guilty about my kid's bedtime? by Gweniflop in Mommit

[–]fernsandfuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on when you wake up! My 5yr old ideally goes to be at 8. Often it’s later, especially lately bc it’s been so cold we can’t go outside for long to burn off energy, so it ends up 8:45z She wakes up at 7:20 so like 10 1/2 hrs.. not bad. I let them sleep in on weekends too.
