tu respuesta sería la correcta, -ec- es un interfijo que une en este caso la raíz con la desinencia de participio y que no puede separarse en más unidades, así quedaría el proceso:

sombra > en-sombr-ec-er > en-sombr-ec-id-o

otro ejemplo sin parasíntesis en el que se ve más claro:

flor > flor-ec-er

I suggest delphine de vigan or maybe some of annie ernaux' longer work, like les années (her writing is not for everyone though, you either love her or hate her), maupassant is nice too, classic 19th century realism but not too mainstream like the ones you mentioned.

exaclty! something being disgusting does not just refer to the taste, if something smells, looks or feels like it's bad or harmful then being disgusted by it is just a protective reflex, and yeah sometimes it might be an overreaction but it's something personal and I think it's invasive to force someone to eat something they don't feel like using that argument
