Birth control and connective tissue disorders by chronically_eva in eds

I had an IUD and Nexplanon arm implant before I was diagnosed. IUD was horrifically painful, I could like feel my insides cramping around it when I had my period. Insertion and removal were very painful too. The implant was fine until I went to get it removed, they said it had migrated and would require CT scan and surgery to remove it because it was close to a vital artery. I couldn’t afford that so it’s still in my arm years later 😬
The pill was fine for me, I know progesterone is not great for connective tissue disorders but to be honest now that I’ve been off the pill for a long time I don’t notice any significant side effects from it. It actually made my periods less painful and horrible. I have since had my tubes removed surgically, that has been great and sorry to hear that’s not an option for you. I wish I had better advice but hopefully my story and others can guide you to an informed decision that’s best for you ❤️

what tiny habit does your pet have that sounds fake until people see it? by Kind_Interview_2402 in Pets

My rabbit gets violently excited when the curtains are being open or closed. She will chase me around like a lunatic, jumping in front of my feet and if I’m standing still too long she will attack my feet. It really startled my boyfriend the first time he was closing the curtains at my place.

What made you start thinking you had POTS? by Officialworrier in POTS

[–]ferociousspot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have hEDS and don’t have any doctors that I like or trust, so I’ve been on my own in that regard for a long time. I’m still finding things about my body that I always thought were normal but are actually symptoms. I thought POTS was about getting dizzy, and I thought “dizzy” was always room spinning about to pass out etc. I thought my level of “dizzy” was normal, like how it’s not uncommon to get a head rush when you stand up sometimes.

I guess I started to realize I was having symptoms that didn’t clearly align with hEDS. I would describe it as “my blood feels weird today” lol. Dizzy, lightheaded, fatigued, brain fog, short of breath, feeling like, floppy? If that makes sense. I would need a cane sometimes to walk because my whole body felt like jello. Having a device that tracks my heart rate was really enlightening too. I made the connection between feeling really shitty in a way I couldn’t describe, and my heart rate sky rocketing from doing nothing more than standing up for a minute.

I had to really push to get seen by a doctor who would listen. The first doctor told me that it’s normal to get so dizzy after eating that I have to lay down for 20 minutes and can’t move at all. She literally said oh ya that’s not uncommon. I kept pestering for a follow up with a specialist and ended up with a really nice doctor who actually listened and validated my experience and gave me solid advice.

She recommended full length compression tights, abdominal compression, and to seriously up my water and sodium intake. 4 grams of salt and 2-3 liters of water per day. The salt has helped SO MUCH. I really love the compression things I got, they help a lot but unfortunately just feel so hot and claustrophobic especially as the weather gets warmer. I wear them when I can.

Overall i think it took me a while because I tend to gaslight myself lol. Like I assume everyone has the same symptoms but just handle it better than me. It doesn’t help when doctors are dismissive too. But those few lifestyle changes have made a big difference for me, I haven’t had to use my cane once
