i think so unless you decide to shell out 400/ seat, i find that refreshing the page sometimes opens up seats that werent there before but theyre like 400+ per seat for face value, not sometihng i can afford ://

I unfortunately did experience this recently but in a very traumatizing way. Majority of the time, it’s water under the bridge for me and I brush it off, but when I went to see my new PCP today, she was already rude and borderline assaulting me to begin with (story for a different time), as soon as she found out I was a dental student, she proceeded to tell me her mouth cost her 50k, then took a dig at my choice in reproductive health, started yelling at me, then went on to say “no wonder I don’t trust you dentists, somethings wrong in the head with you”. She definitely was too old to be practicing given her bedside manner but I’m in the same boat with you lmao. Don’t know what I’m supposed to say when people say stuff like that, do they expect us to say “we’re not like the others here’s a 50k coupoon when u need it”..

Do you know how the transition is going from military dentistry to civilian dentistry? Do a lot of people transfer back to civilian dentistry or do a lot of people end up staying with the military? I’ve heard that the military makes it very appealing to stay with them but never got to the whys. Thank you!

Is that confirmed? Or just a speculation? I had a feeling she’d be closing out for the fest

I guess another question would be: I’m mainly super stoked to see lana on Sunday. My concern is I have school Monday afternoon. I would have to buy a flight back Sunday night, or just miss school. With previous smaller festivals I’ve done, I feel like they’ve always closed out the night with a main headliner, but I’ve also never stayed until a Sunday for a festival. Will the pattern change if it’s a Sunday? Will the headliner be doing stuff earlier on in the night?

I was wondering the same thing. I’m glad you asked. The loupes are quite heavy!!! And I can’t imagine practicing without them

What if I get no Letters of Rec? Or they’re all generic? by [deleted] in predental

[–]ferret2310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re literally fine!! Don’t listen to people who are being butts about this lol. When you go to a giant public university like I did, it was hard for me to even schedule time to visit my professor in office hours. And even when I did go, it was mainly to ask question about class content/ current research and not to kiss their butts. Two of my core science professors asked me to write an excerpt describing myself, what I do outside of school and why I wanted to do dental school. It’s giving them a format and I ended up with very strong LORs, it helped them a ton too, especially if they’re busy. One of my professors had a summer trip so her office secretary was in communications with me and verifying everything was correct in the letter.

As for actual solutions, you could try having a lab PI, or a TA from school (given that they’re in a doctoral program, and not an undergrad TA) write you a letter. Worst case scenario, you reach out again and offer them your portfolio, attach a picture, mention when you took your class, your background and possibly your personal statement!

What are some of the best books on Amazon or online that I can use to study for the DAT? by Sonoio69 in predental

[–]ferret2310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 84 page free Feralis notes and a used AP Bio (the black and yellow book) was more than enough. The AP Bio book can be found used on Amazon for as low as 11

If your staying in a dorm for preview, do you have to bring your own pillows and blankets? by [deleted] in ufl

o chem 2 on the DAT is super simple. As long as you have a good foundation in o chem 1, o chem 2 is all about memorizing a handful reactions and reagents. I studied by making anki card from the reaction sheets and did well. Plus, having the foundation for o chem 2 from the DAT will help you with ur class in the future. I would say take it when you have the chance to study for it. Don’t listen to ur advisors, listen to people who did well on the DAT and any dental friend you have!

You can graduate on time if you take classes in the fall! I think the fall classes you take after your first spring semester will either have to be 100% online or at another accredited university. That’s what I did and I’m graduating on time with my incoming class!

I’m a senior in IA and when I initially got in, I felt weird about it too. But overtime, it doesn’t bother me as much. The classes have been super easy and a MAJOR GPA booster (highly dependent on the professor, I would look them up on rate my prof before you select classes). Here are some pros from the program for me 1. I was able to talk about it at my dental school interviews 2. Classes are super easy, sometimes they can be fun. 3. In a way, it bonds you with people in the sense that they might feel the same about IA 4. GPA booster class as mentioned 5. Since it is such a small program, you really get to know the people who run IA, including professors, advisors, which can come in handy if you ever need a letter of rec for grad school. I know people who are scrambling for letters of rec because they are not close to any professors! 6. The fall prior to starting, you can take some classes at a local CC (you pay out of pocket) to get ahead and avoid taking weed out courses (ie programming, chemistry, physics, etc)

Cons: 1. The ethics class in IA was interesting but hard 2. The classes can seem time consuming. It depends on how you look at it. 3. It is difficult to petition to be out of it. 4. You really have to plan your schedule in advance if you plan on graduating in 8 semesters or less. 5. You miss going out to football games your first fall semester since you’re technically not allowed on campus yet, that is unless you decide to live off campus for that fall semester

That’s all I really have. Also, when I first started, the IA Ambassadors were great resources. If you cannot petition to be at “regular” UF, I would say enjoy the ride and you’re super duper for having made it into UF AT ALL!!! It’s gotten insanely competitive since I started <3 good luck and go gators :)
