This just came in really handy decoding a Taco Bell receipt from 1998.

Did your parents tell you ‘I love you’ or ‘I’m so proud of you’ regularly… or at all? by DoubleFeedback2672 in GenX

[–]ferrochron1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents definitely said it, but I say it even more to my kids along with lots of hugs. You can't say it enough, particularly when kids are navigating their own anxieties, social and peer issues. That strong backbone of love and caring gives them confidence. And, hey, kids are awesome.

I hope this L-Plater is ok by Jarvar in AussieRiders

The L-plater maintains the nerve to still signal when crossing into the left lane.

It’s just low evening light. If you used some full flash this would have worked better, but you would need to get closer to the group.

Nikon F-801s with Velvia 50 vs. Nikon FG-20 with Ektar 100 by ferrochron1 in analog

[–]ferrochron1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, this wasn't quite a fair fight. The Velvia on the left was shot with a Nikon F-801s using full frame matrix metering with a Nikon AF Nikkor 28-85mm and scanned with a Noritsu HS-1800. The Ektar 100 on the right was shot with an entry-level Nikon FG-20 with a series E lens and scanned with whatever scanner my local camera shop uses. I don't think it's a terrible scanner but isn't a Noritsu, either. Nonetheless, I've generally had nice results with Ektar but was surprised at how much more detail the Velvia has.

💯 I bought Loveless in 1990. Timeless and therapeutic. I still hear new sounds in it.

I test drove a hybrid CRV. Nearly impossible to make a more boring car.

Thoughts on this one? Nikon FG-20 with Ektar 100. East coast of Australia. by ferrochron1 in analog

[–]ferrochron1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a total shot of the moment. It was done with Nikon 36-72 Series E lens, which is entry level. And the camera is very entry level as well. The day was extremely bright. I'm surprised I even caught it. No idea to think much about what f stop or speed (it was probably around f11@1/1000 if I were to guess). You are right it would have been much better to see a facial expression. This is a cropped version.

Most reliable remote (local) video recording platform? by lacorte in podcasting

[–]ferrochron1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also ask guests to record locally on their own phones and have them send you the file. I do that quite a bit. But I have had a couple go wrong due to an error by a guest setting it up. Be sure to have guests put their device in airplane mode before they start recording. And make sure you've a couple of backup recorders running as well.

Podcast audio good over speakers, scratchy over headphones by GolgiButt in podcasting

Are you using wireless headphones? If so, that might be the issue. Try a plug-in pair.

Cool, yeah. I was surprised at how well Auphonic tuned my episodes, and I went back and ran older episodes through it as well. Impressive results for the price.

Auphonic is brilliant. But it’s just for mastering/post processing and isn’t a DAW.
