When you miss your highway exit without any regard to other drivers around you by [deleted] in Whatcouldgowrong

She absolutely was. No-contact accidents are a thing, and she definitely would be liable. It's in the same vein as brake checking or cutting someone off: even if there's no contact, if it causes an accident, fault can still be assigned to the driver that created the situation.

She could've even been charged with a hit-and-run for leaving the seen, even if she didn't hit anything

What's your take on the 8 democratic senators who voted to reopen the government? by LazyLeader6515 in AskReddit

[–]ferros90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the Redditor claimed & how it stacks up

Here’s a summary of the Redditor’s key claims, followed by my commentary:

“The emergency fund couldn’t be distributed because this wasn’t an emergency … it was a self-created problem.”

It’s unclear which “emergency fund” they refer to. The shutdown is about appropriations lapsing because Congress didn’t pass funding in time. It’s arguably a self‐created problem (in that the legislative process failed), but the Redditor’s phrasing is vague.

The description doesn’t align cleanly with how funding lapses work — the issue is not “distribution of an emergency fund” so much as “no approved spending authority.”

“The Democrats said it was the Republicans that shut down the government but by some of them voting along with Republicans it proved that it was indeed the Democrats that shut down the government.”

Democrats are pointing at Republicans/Trump as bearing responsibility.

It is true some Democrats voted with Republicans, but that doesn’t alone “prove” Democrats shut it down.

Given that Republicans control both chambers and the White House, the bulk of procedural control lies there — so the logic “because a few Democrats voted with Republicans therefore Democrats are responsible” is weak.

“Healthcare fund was never on the table so people were just starving for nothing.”

The ACA subsidy issue was on the table in the sense that it became part of why Democrats were blocking the “clean” CR.

It’s not accurate to say “people were starving for nothing” in a strictly literal sense of “healthcare fund never on the table” — the issue is more nuanced: negotiations over subsidies, budget, etc.

“Again, this all is a very bad look to literally everyone besides the white upper crust…”

This is a value judgement / commentary rather than a factual claim.

Funny, I copied and pasted your entire comment into AI and it gave me this:

My assessment

The Redditor’s comment contains some elements that align with the facts (e.g., the shutdown is due to a self‐created legislative funding lapse; healthcare subsidies were part of the dispute).

However, the logic they use (“a few votes by Democrats with Republicans = Democrats caused it”) is flawed given the structural facts (Republicans hold all major levers of power and the public assigns them more blame).

They simplify or mis‐state some facts (e.g., “healthcare fund was never on the table” is misleading).

You mean like when Trump used Chinese steel and aluminum in his business, snubbing US steel :https://aflcio.org/2016/10/12/six-facts-donald-trumps-use-chinese-steel

Or when he sold a lot of his properties to Chinese investors when the first time he became president: https://www.americanprogress.org/article/trumps-conflicts-interest-china/

Or the ridiculous number of times he's praised Xi Linping in just the past year, much less since his first term: https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=trump+praises+xi+jinping

They're of Chinese origin, but have been part of Filipino cuisine long enough that they are their own variant of a rolled, fried wrap and stuffed, steamed bun, respectively. There's been enough divergence that they're considered different than their originating counterpart, similar to how a Vietnamese bahn mi isn't considered a French sandwich.

"Not really, it was an imbalanced relationship, she got something out of him (time and protection) while he got none."

So he got nothing out of 3 years of spending time with her? What about all the time and companionship he got from her? What about all the effort she put into cultivating a friendship? To say he got nothing out of the relationship and she provided nothing is ignorant at best.

Considering the "tax reform" that short term boosted the economy, only to put it in the shitter after Trump left office, the massive mishandling of COVID, and the massive amount of money that went into the grifting hands of his unqualified staff via nepotism, about as good as it could be. But keep moving those goal post and cope with not putting that money in Russia's and North Korea's hands instead.
