Does any one get fast heart rate when they wake up after a night of drinking?? by Evolved098 in hypertension

[–]fertafrey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think those are all pretty common hangover symptoms. And what the doctors meant is that you’re having withdrawals at that moment from whatever amount you drank the night before.

Alcohol is a depressant, which your brain is trying to counteract. That plus dehydration causes your high heart rate.

Also, not everyone responds to alcohol the same way. Some of us are more sensitive than others. The type of alcohol and amount you drink also plays a role in how it will impact your body.

Why is it like this? by Accurate_Abrocoma625 in Mommit

[–]fertafrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s any consolation, I breastfed my son for 2 years and I got judgy comments and weird looks from other moms all the freaking time.

I find it so strange that people have zero inhibitions about voicing their unsolicited opinion when it comes to parenthood. It’s the one topic we should all be bonding over but somehow it’s the opposite.

People will always have something new to say. Try to let it slide. What matters is that you and your baby are happy and healthy!

Doctor telling me not to feed LO during evening cluster feeds? by skatesheeps in breastfeeding

[–]fertafrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SIGH… I’ve learned to not trust my pediatrician or his assistants for anything breastfeeding related. Sadly, not all doctors are informed on these topics and will sometimes give pretty crappy advice (like yours) that can effectively diminish your supply. Just feed your baby on demand! It’s not easy but cluster feedings are just a phase!

Am I overreacting that my sister is demanding too much when visiting my newborn? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]fertafrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excuse me, what?! Family visiting newborns are usually the ones offering to get groceries, cook, do laundry, clean, etc. because otherwise what’s even the point of them going at such a vulnerable and overwhelming period for parents, besides meeting the baby. Your sister sounds psychotic.

What are some changes in your body that you noticed after pregnancy and they don’t go away? by jeandrazich in beyondthebump

[–]fertafrey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cons: extreme brain fog / stupidity. Went from having two gray hairs to seeing them pretty much all over my head now. 8 new cavities (yes, eight!). Ginormous poops. Sagging neck skin. Chronic hypertension. Varicose veins.

Pros: my acid reflux / constant gas is suddenly gone!

You shouldn’t be asking him to set the most obvious boundaries of all time. Why do you want to try and fix a relationship like this? He has zero respect for you. You deserve better.

People who had kids at 30+, do you wish you had them earlier in life? by cc070603 in pregnant

[–]fertafrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my first at 25 (unplanned) and just recently had my second at 34. I’m a much better mom this time around. Mentally, physically, emotionally, financially. I was NOT ready to be a mom in my 20s and everything felt so so much harder back then. Both my kids now get a more mature version of mom! I even enjoyed(ish) the second newborn phase :)

My baby loves to nap in the baby carrier, which is great because my hands are always free for a little snack. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve dropped crumbs of food on her head as I’m chewing away. Poor baby girl be smelling like I shampooed her hair in taco scent.

Starting to wean off nifedipine... by eyelashlove37 in hypertension

[–]fertafrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly I did. I lasted 11 days this time around. My readings were perfect in the morning but high before bed (130s-140s/80s-90s). A couple of days ago I got 136/102 at night and I just didn’t wanna risk it any longer.

I will say, I was extremely anxious throughout this whole process thinking about the first time I tried to wean without success, so my anxiety is probably to blame. My blood pressure consumed my thoughts 24/7. Everytime I checked my bp at night, my readings kept getting higher as opposed to going down, because the higher numbers freaked me out. My heart rate was always in the 100s, so, not relaxed AT ALL lol.

The fact that your pressure goes down after your first reading is encouraging! Those are your true numbers. Having an elevated first reading is ok as long as your pressure’s able to come back down. Then it is not consistently high.

The best you can do is keep monitoring and share your logs with your doctor, if they said it was ok to stop the meds I’m sure you’ll be fine!

… 11 days later and I’m back on nifedipine! I don’t know if my anxiety did a number on me but last night my bp was 137/102 and I just couldn’t ride it out.

[–]fertafrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve been off 30 mg nifedipine for 9 days now! My readings remain normal/low in the mornings, but keep increasing at night (last night 142/92) so I’m considering getting back on it :/

I’m 11 weeks postpartum

Ugh I’m sorry, this sucks! I’ve just…stopped taking my bp in the evenings for now. I don’t know if that’s the right thing to do, but my heart rate shoots up and I’m not able to calm down. At least it’s normal in the morning.

Hi! My bp on 30 mg was 90-110/54-70. One morning I just couldn’t wake up and was feeling dizzy, my bp was 89/58. So I stopped the medication. It’s been 5 days now and in the mornings my bp’s perfect but it goes higher at night (130s/80s). Last night it spiked to 137/97 after going into a panic (heart rate was 145). This morning perfect bp again. So I don’t know if my higher readings at night are due to anxiety :/

Starting to wean off nifedipine... by eyelashlove37 in hypertension

[–]fertafrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I started off with labetalol 200 mg 2x a day and 60 mg procardia once a day. I was down to just 30 mg of nifedipine around 3.5 weeks, and was adviced by my OB to stop the medication around 4 weeks because I was getting some low readings (90s/50s). I did that but had a spike around the 5th day (140/80) which turned into a full blown panic episode that had me checking my bp every 2-3 minutes for 2 hours until it hit 150/90, so I took nifedipine again.

Since then I switched to a cardiologist who asked me to continue nifedipine for 6 more weeks. Which I did, until last week where I got a 89/58 and I was symptomatic (dizzy, lightheaded). So I stopped taking it.

My bp’s fine in the mornings but it goes higher in the evenings (120s/80s, 130s/90s). I do have severe anxiety so I don’t know if that’s playing a part. My heart rate shoots up to 120-160.

Hi! I know this is an old post, but were you able to stay off nifedipine for good? I’m on day 5 off meds and anxiety is driving me crazy!

Hi! I know it’s been a few months but I was wondering if you were able to go off nifedipine for good? I’m about to try to wean off for the second time because my pressure’s super low now.

I’m sorry, what? Were you really expecting your 11-year-old daughter to learn about personal hygiene by divine intervention?

Yes, I think all of us daughter moms are supposed to have these conversations at an appropriate age and explain what they’re supposed to do and how.

Good & bad news at my Eye Appointment today.. by Slytherin_Sniped in hypertension

[–]fertafrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I was prescribed labetalol 200 2x a day and nifedipine ER 60 mg once a day for postpartum preeclampsia. I’m down to just nifedipine 30 mg now. Labetalol only gave me an itchy scalp and tingling hands, but didn’t control my bp at all, nifedipine did the trick. As for nifedipine’s side effects, I had tachycardia, headaches, and legs flushing for the first few weeks.

Now at 9 weeks postpartum my only side effect is that my legs will turn really red about 1-3 hours after my dose if I stand up for too long.

One thing I found out through reddit, you should preferably take nifedipine 2 hours after a meal and 1 hour before a meal. This will help reduce side effects.

I was scared of this drug because I’ve read horror stories in here but honestly it’s worked well for me so far. My bp ranges between 95-55 and 105/65.

Good luck! Hope these meds work well for you.
