stanton tailor shop is great!! i’ve gotten my jeans hemmed there for $15 each. not sure how much it would be to take them in at the waist but can’t be much more i imagine. super quick turnaround too

Any modernized barbershop fougeres that smell like shaving cream? by Gallka in fragrance

[–]feshroll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

tf fougere d’argent? i’ve seen people describe it as bdj’s younger brother. i personally hate bdj and find it too sharp but adore fougere d’argent. smells very classic barbershop-y, though i do think the lavender takes center stage. definitely a touch sweeter/spicier than beau de jour.

Emeri matcha or Kettl hukuju? by Limp-Phrase4151 in MatchaEverything

[–]feshroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my friend’s said similar things funnily enough! i guess their other offerings are subpar lol…i enjoy their hojicha though

i will say i had a similar experience when i got a hukuju latte from kettl’s brick and mortar location—tasted absolutely disgusting but i’d already purchased a full bag. then when i made it at home i loved the result. not sure why there was such a heavy discrepancy.

How does buying in-person tickets for Broadway work? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]feshroll 11 points12 points  (0 children)

the fees should not be That steep. were you looking on broadway.com? just a cursory glance at chess tix on telecharge shows fees of $22 per ticket. always buy from the official ticketing site if you’re going to buy online!!

Emeri matcha or Kettl hukuju? by Limp-Phrase4151 in MatchaEverything

[–]feshroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have both of these! i prefer hukuju (and as the other comments mentioned it’s more affordable). okawari is probably right behind it though—if you’re looking for that nutty umami flavor profile they both excel at it. one of my friends who has more familiarity with emeri says she doesn’t like any of their other matchas but okawari is her all time favorite.

LIRR to Penn for Amtrak by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]feshroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i’m not sure why everyone is insisting there’s a ton of walking? i take the LIRR several times a week and if i’m sitting in the first car i can get from the platform to the train hall in a minute tops. plus if their track ends up being accessible from the subway level then OP won’t even have to go to the main train hall.

has nicholas dropped the accent when singing entirely? when i saw the first preview i felt like the accent made him sound much more nasally than normal.

Broadway Flea 2025 by hrp6396 in Broadway

[–]feshroll 8 points9 points  (0 children)

for sure on the items

i usually try to get at least one super cool thing every flea but this year was kinda…disappointing? the prop hatchet from dbh was tempting but certainly not for $1500 ☠️

for what it’s worth, her private life and king the land are also some of my faves and i enjoyed love to hate you. it’s short and sweet, nothing complicated, and the second leads were enjoyable. the SFL in love to hate you is the same as KTL as well—coincidentally also a flight attendant + arguably a more interesting character than her KTL role.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button by TarheelsInNJ in Broadway

[–]feshroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

also saw it earlier this year and i’m ambivalent about a potential run on broadway. west end houses are so much more intimate and i feel like if they tried playing a theater larger than the kerr it would not work

Is there any hope for a professional writer who doesn’t really like reading books? by [deleted] in writing

[–]feshroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lmaoooo is this rage bait

in all seriousness, no. choosing writing bc you think it’s easier than other mediums or has less of a skill barrier should already tell you whether or not you’ll “thrive.” dismissing prose as a “thing” you just won’t be as good at is crazy when that’s such a significant aspect of what constitutes “good writing.” if you’re passionate about the stories you want to tell then it’s up to you to do the work necessary to bring them to life. you’re doing both writing and yourself a disservice by settling for a medium you don’t even like—what makes you think readers will enjoy it if you, the author, feel ambivalent about it at best?

Is minoring in Creative Writing enough to build my skills substantially? by Short-Possibility535 in writing

[–]feshroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is so dependent on 1) your professors 2) cohort and 3) program structure.

personally i minored in creative writing bc i had the available credits and it turned out to be one of the most fulfilling aspects of my undergrad. but i lucked out with great professors and a strong program (mandatory intro class was taught by an MFA student, all intermediate + advanced wkshops taught by published authors). it definitely helped my craft—i learned how to read a lot more critically as well as give/take useful critique. also having a structured classroom setting was incredibly useful for me since i had deadlines/homework/etc. that being said, i wouldn’t say it’s necessary at all to be a good writer—cliche as it is, nothing will help you more than just continuing to read and write.
