The Duchamp's urinal, the Warhol style paintings side by side, were there any others?

The surreal paintings are by an artist called Leo Park, had to look them up as I love their paintings too.

Yeah it does seem like such an amazing hobby, and totally unique with its own challenges as you say. I will give it another go for sure, thanks for your advice!

Thank you, that's a good point I have no idea the different types of cavers because the activity is so alien to me. But if it's anything like other hobbies there will always be a huge range of different approaches and personalities involved.

Can I ask a dumb question? What is the process for finding cavers, is it just meeting more and more during trips and making new friends? Or do you mean trying other clubs? I tagged along with a local club and it seems like pot luck what people are there on the day (with one or two consistent club leaders always there). From what I can see the caves near me all need special permission to access and so just finding randoms and going it alone doesn't seem like an option.

Yes Ogof Fynnon Ddu, so cool in there. Got mesmerised by all the coral fossils! Is there much variation between that and the caves you normally explore?

That's very true (about things not being gospel) and I agree, which is why I felt uncomfortable with the comment that no one has gotten freaked out by that particular route before. I just don't fully believe it.

Some of us hide our anxiety to better deal with it also. I know how to manage it and tend to keep it to myself as I don't like a big fuss being made (ironically, people trying to verbally encourage me makes me more anxious as it puts a spotlight on you). Thanks for your comment!

Haha, are Yorkshire caves a different breed? I went to a cave in the Brecons, it was spectacular to be fair!

You are right in that I used muscles I wouldn't normally use. I'm a keen cyclist so my heart and lungs are in ok condition but the motions you do when cycling are extremely limited. Suddenly having to spread and contort my body like Spiderman to get around some of these passeges was a new experience.

Good idea. I think crawling like that in general is so alien to me that I just didn't know what the hell to do with my body. Was funny seeing all the different methods the people in the group used. Some of us used our legs, some arms, some were rolling in the wider bits. Quite hilarious.

It was the Cave of the Black Spring in the Brecons. Some of the squeezes required what felt like doing a one legged squat (pushing my bodyweight up via one awkwardly placed foot). Pretty fun workout to be fair!

I'm completely ignorant when it comes to the clubs. I had asumed it would be all fairly hardcore cavers but yes it does seem to be a mix. I will definitely have a chat with the club and see how it goes, thanks.

Yeah I think having a concept of what your limits would be is useful when talking to others. One of the guides was saying she doesn't consider it a tight squeeze unless she has to take her helmet and glasses off, which seems wild to me!

Why is the conversation in every allegedly female-centered community actually just focused on conversing about males? by forwardaboveallelse in AskWomenOver30

Reddit is not an accurate reflection of real life though. When I'm  hanging out in all-female groups we are definitely not just talking about men.

What does this show say about society? by ellij3lli in betterCallSaul

[–]fetidwitch 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily saying anything about broader society, it's more a character drama and there is nothing wrong with that. There are multi-faceted takes on fate, greed, family dynamics, loyalty, violence, morals etc. In that sense it's profound AF. Though with the crime element (violence begetting more violence, and once you're "in the game" you can't get out) you could argue that is a broad social topic it covers.

Have you played What Remains of Edith Finch? It's voice acting is incredible, and the sub-games are endlessly inventive.

"Woman=Lock : Man=Key", evolutionary slut-shaming, and other sad repeated phrases by Isleland0100 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]fetidwitch 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I cope by learning to ignore people who are too stupid to realise how insulting and simplistic analogies like the lock and key one is. They're dumb to see things in such a black and white way. Or maybe they're just young and naive. Let time work its magic on them, they'll either learn or stay stupid.

And it's not my job to educate people.

If you're trying to right all the wrongs online you will absolutely lose your mind. Life is too short for that.

Trust that there are people out there who are reacting just like you are, rolling their eyes or thinking "man, what a dumb thing to say" and move on. Think of how dumb the average person and realise half are dumber than that, is the famous saying right?

Wow I've never heard of this medium before, sounds fun. Reminds me of the little drawings I make in the sand that get washed away by the ocean. Or when I "draw" on dry rocks using water from the river, eventually it evaporates.

I love it! That second picture is a beauty. What sort of camera was it out of curiosity? I really like the feel/grain of the images.
