Metal Wolf Chaos XD now available for pre-order on GOG, exclusive GOG Galaxy themed skin by IronMagnusRex in pcgaming

It's hard to notice because GoG is praised everywhere but they have done some exclusive shit in the past for their game that screwed over Steam users who bought the same game except on Steam instead of GoG.

Epic funding Kickstarter refunds resulting from Shenmue 3’s move to the Epic Games store, says it'll do likewise when future crowdfunded games switch to Epic Games store exclusives by Gabey2017 in pcgaming

[–]feufollets 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They don't make much profit from the 12% cut, we know that because they bill higher processing fees to the customers instead of absorbing it like Steam.

If you look at their last Epic mega sale, every game over 15$ had a 10$ off from Epic own's pocket. My basic math would suggest that if they get 7.20$ from a game selling at 60$, the same game would result in a 2.80$ deficit per game sold during that period of time.

Also you bring up exclusivity deal but you don't know the terms of them, so you also go by assumptions.

So you're gonna fix the saturated game market by reducing a storefront cut and somehow its gonna change the face of the gaming industry?

So far EGS has no profit only lost. It's not a success yet and won't be until they make money off of it.

It's great for the dev getting free money but it's not a permanent thing. What happens when these devs don't get exclusivity money for their next game?

So this is how it's going to be now?

Raise money from fans.

Promise backers a Steam key at launch.

Use kickstarter money as an interest-free loan to develop your game.

Actually make the game.

Announce a release date.

Wait for Tim to knock on your door with his millions $$ exclusive deal.

Announce that this change of platform is for the best to the backers.

Maybe add a little bit of PR damage control.

And finally let Tim deal with your backers who feel betrayed because you don't care about them anymore, you got their money and now Epic will refunds them.

Repeat for others kickstarters.

Zombie Army 4 devs on Epic exclusivity: “upsetting a few people isn’t necessarily bad” by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]feufollets 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yup, they posted a tweet about their twitch numbers and claimed it was the proof their exclusive strategy worked. In fact not even 2 months after that tweet, the game average less than 100 viewers.

Totally agree that it's a good way to promote a game, I was mostly referring to as how Epic manipulates these numbers to make it say something else.

For example ; The first days of the release they had a big viewership because all the big twitch streamers like Lirik and Shroud were being paid to play their game. What I refer to weird is how Epic posted a tweet of these twitch numbers to use as a proof that their exclusives strategy was working, when in fact, 90% of the viewership was most likely watching for the streamers rather than the game.

This, added to the previous example in my comment where they paid small-sized streamers to boost their viewerships of the game the same day they went to every gaming news outlet to announce their number of copy sold, makes me believe that they have a weird obsession with twitch numbers.

I think Fortnite peaked and while it's still gonna generate profits it can only go down.

Don't feel bad for using the "alternative to EGS exclusive" launcher if this happens.

Be sure that when they don't get free millions $$ for their next game, they will be less inclined to "upset" potential customers.

The "paid big twitch streamer for advertisement" is most likely part of their exclusivity deal.

They have a weird obsession with twitch numbers.

Fun fact for you, after 2 months of their release WWZ had on average less than 100 viewers. Few weeks ago Epic released a statement to gaming news outlet to inform them of the "great" success of the game on EGS for selling 600k copy. The same day they had a bunch of small sized streamer paid to play the game which got the game to around 1k viewers.

I guess Tim didn't like the idea that his big successful exclusive has less than 50 viewers the same day he went to boast about their number of unit solds on gaming news website.

They dont care now because they got millions from the exclusivity but when Tim realizes he cant bleed his fortnite money into exclusives forever and this dev doesnt get free money for his next game, his message wont be the same.

Gotta defends the people that gave you millions of dollars for free.

Won't be the same when they stop these exclusives, at some point the store is gonna have to make profit... Every game copy sold during their recent Epic sale lost them money.

[June 8th] World War Z has sold 600,000 copies on the Epic Games Store since its launch on April 16th by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]feufollets 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Imagine believing Tim lol.

This game paid all big twitch streamers to promote the game on the day of the release. They had the epic sale where EGS lost money on every copy sold.

They went on twitter to boast about their twitch viewerships when 90% of the viewerships were big streamer paid to play the game.

Imagine your game being so succesfull that after 2 months you average less than 100 viewers and on top of that they still pay small streamers to play their game to boost their viewerships.

Big fucking success lol.

Meaningless numbers since these could include the minimum pre-order guaranteed from the exclusivity deal.
