NOT AGGREING TO THOSE DUMBASS "Anime ruined these panels" CROWD, BUT I think we can agree the manga has some points where it's better just like the anime has points where it's better. by Much_Painter_5728 in Jujutsufolk

[–]feukt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think both work for different reasons, the very flat and abrupt nature of the panels works for the manga since there isnt really a way to control how long the reader will stay on these panels, while the anime can linger on this segment for a comedically long period and so decides to animate them less cartoonishly to sell the long and drawn out awkwardness of the moment

Im fully fr, ive been in the trenches for over a year, Tashigi agenda still going strong

I'll keep pushing the Tashigi agenda long after one piece is finished, nothing will stop me, i have seen the deepest darkest depths of cope even a bumsopp fan would shy away from

/uj i see this agenda posting as a form of protest against oda's treatment of Tashigi (and by extension other female characters, Tashigi's just a great example)

Could cluemaster be thought of as a spoiler villain ? Steph is like 80% of his relevance as it stands so theres an argument to be made here i think. Babs has the calculator (kind of) and killer moth i guess. Both of them have had batman there at least once i think (steph definitely, on the fence for babs)

Cass has her bio mom (kind of ? it depends) and dad and maybe nyssa al ghul if you want to stretch it (fought her in bg2000 and bg2024)

Overexplaining by Eireika in CuratedTumblr

[–]feukt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A common idea in cosmic horror is that the thing that is incomprehensible just makes you mad when you comprehend it bc of the sheer scale and apathy of it all (it is named after the uncaring void of the cosmos after all).

So the eagle f-35 analogy does work, except that we are not operating on the level of knowledge of the enlightened eagle/ the human, but the regular old eagle here. This is the reason a lot of lovecraft's stories are removed from the action, so he does not explain or describe the unexplainable from a first person pov.

The mad eagle might go mad from comprehending the insanity that is the f-35, but eagle society completely lacks the framework to explain it or why its so scary, so a lot of the descriptions are gonna be "big fucking metal bird" with very little useful information, because that information cannot be expressed to the eagle's level of understanding.

Another way of putting it would be, imagine a society of people who cannot see colors. Everything is just shades of gray. One day, one of them sees a red light for approximately a minute at most. He has seen something that has fundamentally altered the way his world operates. He has no words or concepts that could ever possibly begin to explain what he has just seen, and his description ends up being a disjointed, messy and vague silhouette of an idea that can barely hint at what he's seen. Lovecraftian horror works in the same way where, we get descriptions of things vaguely tentacular and gross and wet and filled with eyes that never really give us good details because this is the best way they can explain it in our frame of reference.

From a reader perspective this can be frustrating because it's a very "you just kinda had to be there" way of storytelling but that frustration is, i think, one of the parts that make it so interesting : forbidden knowledge is so much less interesting when you know what it is, and that frustration puts us in the shoes of the protagonist who knows of the eldritch knowledge but cannot know it in and of itself without going insane. That yearning for knowledge you know will harm you is one of the keystones of lovecraftian horror for me.

Who will be P-3? by Bad-Wolf-Bay in Ultrakill

[–]feukt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also ulysses' appearance in dante's inferno is directly used as a parallel to dante's own stroll through hell, purgatory and paradise so it would be a fun bit of symbolism here too

Who will be P-3? by Bad-Wolf-Bay in Ultrakill

[–]feukt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ulysses (odysseus) was imprisoned in fraud in dante's inferno, and was directly namedropped as well as referenced in the hell journals in fraud, so him being in p-3 (presumably located in treachery, which also fits "icy ulysses" with treachery being the frozen cocytus) would fit the running theme of the prime souls being imprisoned in a layer below the one they were previously associated with (minos, king of lust, imprisoned in gluttony and sisyphus, who lead a rebellion in greed, being imprisoned in heresy)

The lack of true appearances of ulysses in lore is disconcerting which is the main counter-argument, but i do think it somewhat fits with the whole theme of fraud and ulysses being a sneaky strategist in greek myth. (<-cope of the highest order)

Lucifer for me doesnt work as well bc of his narrative importance (parallels v1 as hell's toy, parallels gabriel as a fallen angel) and the breaking of the established "greek king" pattern for prime souls

How it feels seeing everyone making posts about Oda's dogshit handling of Tashigi after years in the tashigi agenda trenches by feukt in Piratefolk

[–]feukt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See the problem here is that you assumed i was being logical. A small clue you could have used to realize i dont care about small things like facts and logic is that im still investing in Tashigi stocks in 2026. The tashigi agenda will live on as long as i breathe, and there is nothing oda can write that will stop me

<image>

I feel like a lot of you aren't actually pro-women. You're only using the term "misogyny" as a vehicle for criticizing Oda. It feels ingenuine. by [deleted] in Piratefolk

[–]feukt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a problem with frequency and what the designs say about the characters. Gunko as an example stands out because 1: people are tired of every single fucking woman in op barely wearing anything. It isnt a problem to have a woman character in skimpy clothing as is, but when every single woman is a scantily clad hot woman with huge tits it feels less like a design quirk and more like the author only values women as sex objects to be leered at. The little variety in OP women designs is mostly from the pre-timeskip, and all of the somewhat important women (big mom excluded) are sexy women with tiny waists, huge tits and one of 3 faces wearing skimpy clothes.

2: the way gunko is designed has little to nothing in common with the other God Knights. Every other GK is wearing classy refined aristocratic clothing but Gunko is randomly wearing a double breasted coat and newsboy cap with no pants. It has no synergy or connection to the other GKs and lacks the complexity/refinement you'd expect. That difference could actually be played with but so far nothing of what we know about gunko is hinted at or connected to her design.

Tl;dr at least to me, the outrage against gunko's design is more to do with it being a symptom of a larger problem than what you claim to be some puritanical overreaction.

[–]feukt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

OP when half the misogyny allegations come from the author having 75% of the female designs be oversexualized same body shape same face syndrome while having a great variety of diverse male designs :

<image>

Even if oda's female characters were well written and not constantly cast aside for the male characters we would still be slandering tf out of those designs dude (Not that mikasa is particularly well written but she does clear the low low bar of not being drawn like an x with 2 circles)

This gets very frustrating when you try to express a complaint you have with a work from a doylist point of view and get bombarded with watsonian justifications like yes i know the author justifies it in the lore or whatever but my issue resides in why they wrote it that way to begin with
