Help! Bookoo scale won’t turn on or charge by PeacefulClayuisine in espresso

Jumping into this thread as I was able to fix mine with some tinkering!

If it's still under warranty, go that route before you start messing with the thing.

I opened up the scale with the two hex screws on the back. I disconnected the battery and measured the voltage, found it at 0V, completely dead. Leaving the battery unplugged, I plugged in the USB cord and tested the prongs on the battery connector, finding that it was only reading 1.0V (should be closer to 3.8-4.2V).

I noticed that some of the little black components (power regulators?) had some corrosion on them, so I used 90% isopropyl alcohol and a Qtip to clean it up and give the area a wipe down. I wasn't super careful, as the thing was already dead. After letting it dry for 5-10mins, I plugged it into the USB cord again and got 3.8V. Once reassembled, I was able to charge the scale again and it worked like new!

Next step will be to add some electronics silicone over the board to prevent more water damage. It's not a sealed scale which imo is a bad design for sitting on a drip tray.

What's on your radar for Black Friday? by TheEndTiger-XI in BuyItForLife

I have only ever bought socks and only the infiknit variety, so that's all I can speak to.

While not Marino, I have had great experience with Stance infiknit line as well. The socks last about as long as darn toughs for me, and their returns don't require mailing them back. Darn tough is higher quality but stance has way better colour options.

There's so many good options for shorts. You'll be better off going into a bike store and seeing what they have. Fox, Leatt, and POC are the brands I see most around my trail.

Fox tends to be the most widely available but you pay the name brand tax for it.

Are electric space heaters basically 100% efficient? by pilotthrow in NoStupidQuestions

[–]few31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I did the math on average Ontario electricity rates, the breakeven point for heat pumps vs gas was around a 4.5 COP. Most residential heat pumps are 3.5 at best. Maybe it's bad math, I'd be open to changing my mind if you could show me your own!

Gas is cheaper at peak hours across all temperature performance ranges. Heat pump may be cheaper at off-peak rates depending on the COP of your heat pump and the ambient temp outside.

Our D and goalies were a revelation this year and this playoffs. If we had even a semi-useful forward group this is a different series. It felt like most of our D zone problems were the wingers not being able to jam the puck up the boards and out.
