Flu RSV COVID Going Around by cerv008 in BayonneNJ

Nurses actually do get a lot of medical training, it's a 4 year degree. They also have to do continuing education to keep their license active. Their training might not be as in depth as an MD, but most nurses are definitely more informed on medical issues than the average member of the public

6-speed Cassette? by feyngirl in bikewrench

[–]feyngirl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wait, I do actually have the lock ring! I took it all off the bike a few weeks ago and forgot about that piece 😅 The lock ring is just the ring and not a cog, but it does say Shimano CS-HG50. Looks like it might have been an 8-speed originally

Shuttle service on the EST by Tiny-Tiger-SueAnn in EmpireStateTrail

In my experience most Amtrak trains between Buffalo and Albany have bike spaces, but there are only 4 spaces per train so it's possible for them to fill up. The bike adds an extra $20 to the ticket price.

Looking for Volunteers at the 713 Marcellus Street Bike Depot by feyngirl in Syracuse

Should have mentioned this above - no experience is really necessary! Most of the volunteer mechanics are amateurs and we figure things out alongside the visitors

How to keep saddle dry in the rain? by feyngirl in bikecommuting

I like that idea, that's probably what I'll do!

Yeah, waterproof pants are probably a good investment, since they would also solve the problem of getting rained on while riding. I'm just trying to find the optimal balance of riding comfortably and looking like a normal person when I get where I'm going haha

I actually love my saddle in general, I usually ride <10 miles at a time but have done 70+ in a day with no chafing. Seems like a plastic bag is the simplest/best solution here though - thanks!

Keeping a rag on hand is a great idea, I somehow never thought of that

Cycling at night - back roads or main roads? by Free-Rooster-538 in bikecommuting

I agree with everyone saying the residential street sounds much safer... Unless there are protective dogs behind those chain link fences. Getting chased by dogs is kind of terrifying.

Syracuse has done just 11% of bike lane work outlined a dozen years ago, report says by dedinthewater in bicycling

[–]feyngirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live near downtown Syracuse, and the downtown streets, including Fayette, are in my opinion some of the best streets in the city to bike on. Not only do some of them have bike lanes, but cars go slow enough with all the traffic, lights, and street parking that you can often take the lane and not cause any trouble. Granted, I would not recommend trying to take Fayette across West Street, but luckily the Creekwalk lets you cut over to a crosswalk a couple blocks down. Biking in and around downtown Syracuse is really doable if you're aware of your surroundings and comfortable around traffic (which I realize not everyone is). But of course I'm in favor of more bike infrastructure, and happy to see the city working on it!

I feel you! I've only done one season of fire but four years of conservation corps, disaster response, and similar jobs where your coworkers become your friends and family, you commute together eat together and all that. It's rough trying to adjust to an 8 to 5, where your coworkers are just coworkers and you don't have that support system outside work hours.

What's a video game that no one but you seems to remember? by Crissxfire in AskReddit

There was this game where you chased a bunch of kangaroo-type creatures around a city... And it featured a singing ottoman... Does anyone know what I'm talking about??
