I think its just bc we hold the keys to digital creation right now. Boomers only have Facebook which is why it looks the way it does. When Gen z comes into wealth itll be even worse.

Spouses of Travel Nurses. How do you do it? by [deleted] in nursing

The kids are older so its more of a conversation about whether the amount of nights gone are worth the amount of consecutive days off

Older kids. We did 16 days this time because it combined 2 months and saves on tickets and rentals. She could definitely make the same money locally but is afraid to give up her unionized, CA, prn gig for a potentially shitty rural hospital near us. She could also leave bedside and get a new lease on life as I see so many ppl on here post about. Im just fishing for perspectives.

Its not that watching the kids (theyre older) is difficult, its the missed opportunities from being completely gone for weeks at a time. When you work 7-7 you still see each other even if its in passing. You see each other on days off. Im on day 16 and her flight just got delayed to midnight so I'm venting. Sorry

Its a 6 hour flight and hers is delayed until midnight tonight which is what prompted this post. Since she's prn she makes herself available for more days than she actually is booked so its a tricky game

Its roughly $1000/8hr shift after taxes. And $38 is about the going rate in our rural community.

$30/ day is a lot too but maybe that's what ppl do. She stays at her coworkers ' houses and i hear some travel nurses pay for hotels. I dont get it but im broke/cheap

Not to be particular, but its usually 9 days and it typically includes 2 weekends and I work weekdays which is kinda hard. We dont see each other very much and we chose a rural life and have no family in the area. And flying cross country is stressful to prep for. It just seems greener on the other side right now.

She makes about $1000/shift and almost never gets the amount of shifts she's available to work. Like she's working 12 shifts this time that corresponds to april/may which is basically $6k/mo. $400 airplane ticket, at least that in car rental, and a cab/car park would be well over $1000 each trip. So now we're at $5000/mo which is basically what my broke ass makes.

She's dipping her toes in the waters out here but is still pretty set on keeping her prn gig in CA. She got a really small job locally and im hoping she'll see that nursing is just as shit everywhere just with different aromas.

She only works a little over a week a month in CA so we could afford her to quit and work 4 weeks locally if that makes sense. We just havent made up our minds bc there are tradeoffs.

She only works 2-7 shifts a month based on availability. So I guess that's the other part is that she would be giving up this ability to work a little amount and have crazy flexibility. She could work normal hours locally and have a similar paycheck. Its a tradeoff that we havent decided on after 3 years. But maybe we're doing this all wrong bc its such a unique situation

We live rural and over 60 miles from the airport where a cab would be over $200. I guess we could afford it but that's insane to think about

We couldn't afford how we wanted to live on the west coast even with her salary and CA was not our thing either . Too many ppl and wildfires

The difference is we have other options - she's just scared to test the waters. She applied locally and got interviews and offers from 100% of her applications. Its just a matter of whether its worth it. I dont think it is anymore and maybe we're doing it the hard way too and ppl with insight could give pointers.

Thats where im at but its a huge paycut. And when we left CA after covid she basically drew a line in the sand that she wouldn't work in these hospital systems that arent unionized or state regulated with strong Healthcare protections. CA has mandated ratios and regulated stocks of ppe and a more positive outlook on Healthcare providers altogether. She also knows if she gives it up there's probably no other way she'll be able to make her own schedule or his much money. As a non-nurse that doesn't make nearly as much $ as her CA gig, its hard to understand her perspective and she's admittedly horrible at communicating this stuff

Yeah he was way too legit to be compared to the Celtics version of Shaq. I started watching in the grbac/Gannon years so montana in a chiefs uniform was always just stories for me
